well i picked this up sat.
didnt really want it, but it has a bendix 2 speed.
got it home and checked the serial# E023397 so i figured may 1960 rite?
i looked more on monday and some things didnt look rite...chain links looked like train wheels in stead of our nice curvy "8" links now...the headbadge doesnt quite look like all the others i'm used to..than i remembered most every 60s and 70s schwinn i've dis-assembled has the year on the crank, so i took it apart. no help. it said AS&CO.
anly clue guys?

try looking at the chainguard at all angles in good light. you should be able to see the outline of the graphic. I can see schwinn

You can tell if it's an American by the front hub. Americans had cheap 3 piece hubs made in the USA. Because it was an "American" (all American made) they didn't use the nice one piece German hubs you normally see on 60's bikes. Could be a Speedster, Typhoon, American and several others. Not a Wasp as it's a middleweight and not a ballooner. Gary

Typhoon didn't come out until 1962. Chances are, it's a Tiger, because it looks to have the tab for a front rack. And the 60 Tiger was the only one with a front rack, standard (and painted fenders). The Speedster and base American had painted fenders, but no rack. -Adam
