Why is it that most people here seem to favor mens bikes? I have searched hi and low for a vintage mens bike or frame and cant find anything. Plenty of ladies bikes. Seems like mens bikes are rare for whatever reason. I personally like to ride a womens bike. They are much easier to get on and off of. I do ocassionally find mens mtn bikes for parts but finding an older mens cruiser is near impossible. I belong to a handful of fb yard sale sites where I advertise for old bikes. Only offers I get are womens. But back to my question. Why a mans over ladies?

I prefer a boys bike myself for styling reasons. Another problem with boys/mens bikes is most of us guys were very hard on our bikes, meaning many have been trashed. Girls bikes almost always seem to be in better shape, less ridden & better taken care of.

Personally one the best riding bikes I have is my wife's 50's Roadmaster with a shockmaster fork. I'm not prejudiced though, I collect & ride them both..

It may also be that the majority of collectors are probably men, and thus seek out mens bikes. The geometry may not be ideal for men and the frame design is inferior so look out for bent frames particularly on the seat post. If you find something in your price range that isn't anything too special to hack up it can be modified into a cool looking mens frame.

This is my daily rider Huffy Good Vibrations. American not China. With the Cloud 9 saddle and 36t front sprocket its the most comfortable bike I have ever owned....and its a womens

Rigidity and resilience is somewhat compromised with the step-thru design. Not to say they are all inferior per se. They're good at not transmitting road shock to the rider.

Yeah, I'm with B607, wearing a dress is out. I currently have 4 step thru bikes. But then again I have a wife and two daughters. Both of my daughters prefer the more feminine step thru as they are girlie girls. 2 of the 4 are barn find survivors with rust but the paint is great. Girls just took better care of their stuff, they actually stopped their bikes before dismounting while boys sped up and jumped off. Also, girls figured out what kickstands were for!

Tons of men's bikes for sale on this site! Also, try car or motorcycle swap meets, I've seen several boys bikes there. You can try the wanted section if you are looking for something specific. Lastly, the events section lists bike swaps...lots of great bikes there....just bring cash and a truck!

Girls bikes are like four door cars, very practical but not very cool.

Unless you add a convertible tank.;)

Basically Girls bikes are much easier too find in good condition and still intact simply because they were and still are more careful with there belongings where Boys are still more apt too take them apart , ride over jumps ,throw them to the curb and do other things that normal girls wouldn't do , started way back when fellas discovered they could lighten ther ride buy simply removing parts that they didn't necessarily need ,such as fenders, racks, tanks and so on..hence some of those parts got discarded along the way....

I think it's a rat trap springer with the rockers flipped, which pushes the front wheel forward a few inches. Could be wrong, I have been a couple times!

Dagger TRM, how far was that wheelbase extended? Your merging photo makes the bike even cooler

Yep, flipped the rockers on the front and extended the rear with plates and traction bars. If I remember right, the wheel base was extended 6".

Little Sally always rode her bike to the tea party with friends! Billy on the other hand, rides his like a wildman, and then takes it apart to see what makes it tick! Now Billy's bike sits in the corner with pieces missing!!! It's a gender thing!! LOL

Billy and I were friends, after he trashed his rear tire on his bike, we I chopped off the front forks and stuck them on the front of my bike to turn it into a chopper. We would have cut them off of Sally's bike but she was cute and I was thinking about asking her to the movies....Good thing she said no cuz she turned into a whacko and won't let her husband buy bikes and fix them up.....

Well, most of the frames i've been playing with (less so now that winter is on the way and my bronze won't flow well  ) are either kid's frames or BMX knockoffs-lots of cheap steel fittings, 20" rims and such to play with. Once I knocked together my White Rabbit compact bike I gave my 1965 Schwinn Aristocrat to my next door neighbor-it was(and still is) a women's frame. The Emory I donated to my former neighbor -prior to moving here- was a men's frame.

I don't think I actually have a preference. I mean, my Rabbit has pink rims for gosh sakes...:21: Secure enough in my masculinity I don't reckon I care.

I really like the mixte style bike, which is sort of a woman's frame in that it's a type of step-through, but the ones I find are too small. Same with a standard step-through, but I don't usually care for the aesthetics of them.

I don't mind ladies frames all that much. I have a 81 schwinn traveler that's probably the smoothest rider I have. I had to use that one the other night when my regular work out bike broke down. Stopped by the little brewpub around the corner while I was out.

I'm also working on a bike for my special lady friend that started it's life a huffy Ocala dumpster frame.
