not too much. nearly all the local shops are fairly new, so there may be one old bike in a corner or something. the only shop that's been around a good while is across the river and i've only been there once on a quick stop, so i can't remember anything special.

All my local ones are pretty awful and uninteresting and I find myself there only for tubes and rimstrips. Scratch that.. it has one custom BMX tandem. My local Pancake House has more vintage bikes on display.

Though I did a local pickup on an ebay part a few cities away and the seller ran a bicycle/lawnmower shop with half the store filled with the guy's collection of vintage bicycles, pedal cars, trikes, and minibikes. I wish I had had my camera but I was not expecting it. Awesome guy; he showed me his current project he was cleaning up--a pristine original paint Phantom frameset.

mine isnt interesting at all. mountain bikes and road bikes. when i come in looking for a cruiser part, they get stupid (er) looks on their faces. lately though there has been a pretty cool teenager that has been stocking more vintage looking parts because he told the owner that people like them

They have closed hte door and covered the windows on my local shop. I know what's in there thought, penny farthing replica, recumbant, 70s Schwinn cantilever, 2 Giant Stilletos (maybe 3), and possibly a couple mountain bikes. The high wheeler and recumbant belonged to the deceased owner. Oh, there's also a monkey bike up on a shelf.

For the most part, when I was in Eastern NC, the shops were road bike and cheap CHEAP beach cruiser heavy. Even though they would have a ton of BC'ers they never had accessories. Having said that there was a new shop in New Bern that had a nice bunch of Electras and a felt or two. I also noticed that Wal/K-mart had a bigger selection of cruiser parts than anywhere out here. Maybe because they re closer to the beach?

When I lived in Greenville there were a couple shops, but since it was a college town they carried everything (new) I don't remember seeing old stuff, but that was over 10 years ago and I was only into mountain biking.

When I moved to Williamston, no bike shop.

When I moved to Plymouth they had a big hardware store that had a nice bike section, but I wasn't into bikes at the time and didn't realize the good stuff they had until after I moved and got into bikes. Before I moved a guy opened a bike shop in downtown Plymouth, I don't know if it's still there, but the guy was super knowledgeable, use to work at Trek and Gary Fisher and other bike places. He had some really cool retro styled cruisers, but once again I wasn't into bikes like I am now at the time and only went in there for MTB stuff.

Then I moved here to Roanoke Rapids and they had a shop, I got into bikes and before I even went into the shop, the shop owner passed away and I attended his funeral here at the church. The guys left to run the shop really had no interest in it and well, now it's basically closed. I am trying to get up with the guys who still use the shop as their base for the chimney sweep business so I can ask about their leftover stock.

Sounds like a possible turn-key opportunity for ya...plus you know, maybe you wanted to get into chimmney sweep biz  I remember the shop in Old downtown Greenville. I saw a Haro freestyle perform there one summer(in 88 maybe?). They even had freestyle scooters doing their thing!

The chimney sweep business is bumping, that won't go away. The thought has crossed my mind, but they don't have a good vendor base or customer base, and (especially) I don't need a business, the ministry keeps me too busy to work on my own bikes.

Every single shop from my youth is long gone (San Diego area). The oldest are a few from the seventies and the only true vintage stuff they ever had was from buying out closed down stores.

My LBS sits in the back of a hardware store. They have been there for ever and seem to know everything. I haven't inquired about old parts but they do have a bunch of cool old bikes hanging from the ceiling. I have bought most of my new bikes from them over the years and I just cant say enough about them. heres there site if your interested... http://highlandbike.com/articles/the-hi ... s-pg39.htm
not a real great site but there are a couple of pics of the store if you poke around.

Wow! That's a cool shop! I bet there aren't many hardware/bike shops still out there. I could be wrong on that but I haven't seen any. Reminds me if the stories my dad tells about going to the international harvester place to by his first bike.
