Just reading my new Bicycle Times magazine, and came across the Sturmey Archer ad...

They are releasing new 2-speed kickback hubs!

Yeah you read that right. It's called the S2C and the S2. Those are with polished or colored anodized aluminum shells. The B2C is a black painted version.

Went to Sturmey's website, http://www.sturmey-archer.com and my work computer wasn't able to open the product catalog. The pages for tech specs work but none of the PDF files.

In any case, I'm less concerned about the internals of these hubs than I am about where to buy one! The Sturmey site and the comment/blog posts on their site all note a late May- early June release date.

How do I get one? Who sells Sturmey Archer? They link to a Sunrace factory store which does NOT include hubs.

Also, I'm wondering what I'll need to complete the job- a driver, nuts, small parts. I don't know what the hubs come with when they're shipped.

With narrow hub spacing, these guys will be ideal upgrades to a million old bikes I think. I predict wheel-building in the near future...

If anyone has more info, please email me or post it here.

I called biketoolsetc this week and spoke to a tech at length. He said there is one distributor for Sturmey in the US and these hubs are not available yet. He did say to be patient because when Sunrace starts advertising new products, they do not usually hit shelves for 6 months.

They are going to be a hot item. I read the webpage, it looks like it has a normal gear and a higher gear, like the blue band Bendix 2 speeds. With or without brakes. However, the sprocket looks fairly interchangable, so a larger sprocket could be put on to mimic a yellow band 2 speed, with normal and low gear. A friend of mine in Grand Forks mentioned these hubs last night and said he has one on order already through the local bike shop.

These hubs are going to catch on big.

Who made the kickbacks that Schwinn was going to use a year or two ago then pulled them?

im pretty sure they were supposed to be sachs hubs, the bikes came hit the stores and were still advertised with a 2speed but they all had coasters.
