When was the Stingray Slik introduced?

My dad and I are having an argument. Was the Schwinn Stingray rear Slik introduced in 1968 with the Krate bikes or before that? When? Please help me!! Thanks. :mrgreen:

From what I've been told, before. It came out with the stingray deluxe, black wall and white wall. I'm sure the guys on the schwinn site would know exactly what year it came out.

On the 1965 Schwinn Catalog, you find the Sting-ray "now with black SLIK rear tire".

the deluxe whitewall was a knobbie tire, ive never seen a whitewall schwinn slik, just offbrand like goodyear and carlisle. doesnt mean they didnt make em, but i havent run across any. but id agree 65 on when the sliks came out

They claim the stingray in the middle has an NOS schwinn stingray white wall slick. Can't tell for sure though.

My brother and I both got J38 standard StingRays for Christmas in 1965 and they both had blackwall slicks. B607

looks like in 68 they had one (whitewall slik) earlier had the the "studded whitewall", learn somethin new everyday :wink:

There's a guy in Dayton, Ohio that has an NOS whitewall slick still in the packaging. You would'nt beleive what he's asking for it.

maybe for the raised white letter tire, but they were available earlier than 68


and yeah necessaryevil, i dont think they would be cheap, i mainly look for reproduction tires because i like to ride my bikes (and until now i didnt even know there was a WW slik :mrgreen: ) havent seen a repro so the real deal tires are likely to get pricey for those people who "have to have them"

The 1965 Slik Chik came with a yellow oval label, whitewall Slik.
