widening a fork dropout??

I need to widen the dropout on the fork so it'll acccept a non-slotted 3/8 axle. Anyone ever done this? Dremel?
Yes, I'd just replace the axle if I had one that is slotted, but I dont and I wanna do this this evening after work.

I've done it with a Dremel tool. Depending on the fork, some material might actually be quite hard to hand file. Take a measurement of the width, work on one side of the slot until you've increased the width by half of your goal, then work on the other side of the slot until the full width is reached. That way your slot stay symetrical. Repeat on the other fork leg.

takes about 30 minutes, start with a flat file until you get your gap, then clean up the pocket with a round file.
