I have an old Schwinn bike that was "customized" to a truss frame. It was done by a professional, which means I didn't do it. It has 27 x 1 1/8" tires and I want to fit these on it http://www.amazon.com/Electra-Amsterdam ... d_sbs_sg_4
but they're 700c x 40mm. What new rims should I get to fit these tires, and will they fit on the bike? Here's one I was thinking about... http://www.amazon.com/Mach1-EXE-Rear-Wh ... 28&sr=1-13

700C wheels are approx 1" larger in diameter than your 27" wheels. Not only that, but a 40mm tire is a bit beefier, too. Fenders DEFINITELY won't fit. You might have to do some grinding/clearancing to get the tires to clear the fork crown, and I have no idea on the rear, though there's usually a bit more room back there. You may also run into problems with the brakes - unless the shoes are all the way at the bottom of the arms on your 27" wheels, there probably won't be enough adjustment left to make them line up on 700C's

The common 27" on American market bikes is actually larger diameter (630 ISO) than a 700c (ISO 622). Many 10-spds used to be available with 27" or 700c as an option, and they are often used as replacements on older bikes. The brake arms may need to be changed in some cases. There are bigger 700's and smaller 27", but they're unusual oddball items in the U.S. :| A 1 3/8" tire is roughly 30 mm.
