As you can see, the kid on the left was very excited about the welding process!

Look what came in the mail today

Just a quick testfit for tire clearance, width is ok but the height isn't. I'll try with another tire tonight and also make a quick mock up in with the frame for the stance.
With a little research i found out it's a Batavus bilonet f48 fork. Probably around '53

As i said before the height is an issue, maybe i can solve it by mounting the wheel as low as possible

I'll first try to solve since i like the cream tires, if i can't make it work i'll mount other tires

Did some testfitting with different tires
First whitewalls (47-559)

Enough clearance but i dont like the combination with the rims

Black Schwalbe Big ben (55-559)

Also more then enough clearance but not what i am looking for...

Back to the creme Fat Franks (60-559)
Mounted them in the bottom of the dropouts, they still are deep enough in the dropouts since they are pretty long.

It aint much, but enough. This is the clearance i am looking for.

And it also is the best look in my opinion.

Thanks Matti! Yes it is possible, but it's pretty solid old metal and its pretty hard to reach with a grinder

It actually feels pretty good
The only difference is the work the grinder has to do, old steel tubing is a lot thicker

Et voila..

Still needs to be welded but i have to go to a friends workshop to do that.
Thinking about adding another tube to make it more or less original looking.
But since i didnt have a fitting one i called it a day.

I see another clue to the "electronically welded frame".

If you look closely there are two tubes. Looks like maybe they 'electronically' welded a sleave/plug first and then slide the top tube over it that butts into the seat tube. That would explain the look that it's magically stuck without any evidence of a weld or brazing.

It's held together with 1947 chewing gum. It's not coming apart!

Looking good, and yep feels good cutting up quality vintage steel… doesn’t hurt a bit

I found some tubing, it's a bit short but i can make it work
Option 1 is low

Option 2 is a bit higher

Option 3 is using the original piece and make it a bit longer with the new piece

Option 3 folllows the line of the top tube, so i think that's the best option
