La Ruta, i take it? I didn't even click the link; i've probably read 2 dozen articles on La Ruta de los Conquistadores over the past 15 years.... That ride is tough enough, without factoring the "race" aspect into it. Dang.

The TransRockies 7 day mtb race in Canada is no picnic either.
Iditabike (iditarod for mountain bikes) is brutal. I'm not tough enough for any of them.

Montezumas Revenge. Held in Montezuma CO for 20yrs from 86-06, the offical course was never completed in a 24 hour time period. Required you to summit a 14er and cross the continental divide almost 6 times. The lowest elevation you would ever be at during the race was about 9,500'. Many endurance mtb racers including Tinker Juarez competed in it back in the day. I hear someone is trying to start up a similar event called Summit Revenge, as its held up in Summit County.
