I haven't had much time to work on my build but did manage to get the old dropouts cut off and the new ones tacked on. Also started to tack stuff up before I ran out of wire in my welder.
Forgot to take a pic of the dropouts tacked on . Don't have a lot of clearance but these tires are 2,325 I think the ones I am using are 2.125 so should get a little more clearance because the further back I go it gets closer. Might have to cut the tack welds loose and adjust them a little as I had to let air out of the tire to get it on.
Today I worked on the seat a friend gave me a knee cushion I could use for the seat
It's about a 1 1/2" thick it has some forgiveness but don't totally collapse. Cut the pieces out for the seat
drilled some holes thru the brackets and seat base ran some bolts thru the seat
Then went about looking for something to use for a cover for the seat only thing I found was this brown fake leather that had enough for both parts. Got it covered and put on to see how it looked. I think it turned out okay did the best I could with the wrinkles around the corners.
Pretty much on hold till I can get some more wire for my welder so I can get everything finish welded.
Got some wire and finished up the welding. Got a little bit of body work done yesterday and today. It don't look like a lot of progress but took yesterday and a little while after work today.
I also worked on a tank first I made a template out of cardboard marking the holes for the tabs.
Transferred that to some wood cut it out drilled some holes and temporarily mounted it. Need to get some different hardware for permanent mounting.
Tonight when I was in the shed I saw this light I could use for a tail light tried a couple different mounting spots.
Down under the seat
Or right behind the backrest of the seat
Kinda liking it under the seat will have to see how it looks when I get a back tire on.
Finally done a mock-up done this weekend couple hours Saturday and couple hours today before it got to hot today even with the widow a/c in my shed. I need to get it insulated at least the ceiling would help a lot.
Tried out some different stuff but didn't like it and came down to a couple options.
First I had to drill and tap a hole for the chain guard.
Tried a couple different fender options some flat top think maybe off huffy cut down where the green tape is
The rear fender that came on this bike cut down and used for both ends
And no fenders
Tried out different handlebars kinda like these stock Harley the beefy ness matches the bigger down and top tubes. Main problem is that they don't have knurling in the middle would have to figure something out for that. And they are a little wide so maybe cut some off the ends.
Wanting to try a two tone using different base colors with some shimmer metallic candy apple red to give a lighter color on top and darker down low starting at the top paint line.
I have a couple things left to do like a mount for the brake arm some sort of brackets if I decide on fenders.
Looking good! I like the beefy bars with the fat frame tubes too. Maybe you could score the bar in the clamp area with some light cuts with hack saw? Give it some bite.
I saw a really cool hot rod paint job at the car show this past Friday. Black under coat makes for a dark look to the metallic, as opposed to a light coat like a silver, which would make it really bright. I will try to do a couple of stills from a friend's video, I know he shot about 3 hrs of the show.
Another thing I've seen that is really cool, and @Dr. Tankenstein did a bit of this effect on his build a couple RRB BO's ago. Use a gloss black as a complimentary color to your satin matte black. Has a really cool effect!
