replacing dropouts on a lightweight

Just a quick question.

Whats involved in replacing the dropouts on a 60's-70's lightweight (like a suburban)? Are they welded or brazed?

Scrape a little paint off the joint in between the stays, if it's brazed you should see some brass or bronze. I have my friend's Suburban here, but the paint there is good, I'm not scratching it. It looks to have an unground puddle on the inside.(between the stays)
