I've been wanting to do this for a couple years. Looks like fun.

This one starts at our old minor league baseball stadium and end at Forsyth Park (the big park that I take so many pictures of). It ends with a big lunch and croquet matches while the Savannah Jazz Festival will be going on at the bandstand amphitheater.

When tweed rides first became all the rage our group did an Anti-Tweed Ride.

You're my hero!!! I'll head to Goodwill and see if I can replicate this outfit.

Coincidence ,my work in progress is a '70 Raleigh Sports 3 speed all original. I picked up this used bike for my first Tweed Ride. Thanks to new member Jinks Hill for this info http://phillytweed.wordpress.com

Are you gonna have that Sports up'n running in time, Digger? Let me know if you need parts or whatever....

Never been on a seersucker or tweed ride but I been on plenty of denim and flannel rides !:D:D

Ha, me too.... that's pretty much every ride. I actually have ridden in seersucker, but never as any sort of planned/organized event.

Excellent idea. I really want to like the concept of a tweed ride, and i think it's great b/c it gets ppl riding, it promotes some "community" among cyclists, and it enhances the appreciation of vintage bicycles. But, i just can't shake the feeling that the whole thing is just a pipin' hot bowl of douchechili. I don't think I could bring myself to participate in one, unless it was on Halloween, and being that Halloween is my wedding anniversary, I don't think that'll ever happen.

I've long harbored a desire to "crash" a tweed ride in the wrong attire, on the wrong bike. Like, dress as an early 90's LA gang member on a lowrider, or (my favorite right now) dress as an hair band/glam rocker and ride some mid-to-late 80s roadbike, in a "miami vice" colorway.

Dress like this:

Ride this:

(Actually, it might be cool to sport a "Dave Scott" look, complete with the moustache and the lei...)
And crash a party like this one:

Now, that might be fun.

There's just something so silly and yet dignified about that group. Looks so fun. I'd love it.

Here is the Goodwill outfit I pulled together for the Seersucker Ride. It was a fun time with about 30 people.

What is seersucker and tweed? Is it just wearing suit type clothes or what ? I'm sorry if this seems stupid that I don't know?

Seersucker and Tweed are two types of fabric that suits/clothing are made from. I couldn't find any seersucker, so I just wore a mix of clothes that I felt matched the spirit of the ride.

The thought is that the bikes are supposed to match that era, as well, though that's not always the case. The tweed rides were started so people could have a fun excuse get out their penny farthings and other turn o' the century bikes.

I have been on 4 Tweed Rides in Washington DC and Philly. Lots of fun, some really neat bikes old and new, and a great chance to socialize with people I would never have otherwise met. While the majority of riders are properly "Tweedy", others come in a variety of dress. So too, there is a wide variety of bicycles, from penny farthings to proper English 3-speeds, folders, Stingrays, and classic American single speeds. The first ride I went on in DC, I had a bubble machine on my bike, which added to the festive air of the ride. For info on how Tweed Rides got started, see link below.....

PS- I will be going on the Philly Tweed Ride November 1st. I even donated a couple prizes.

I did one tweed ride. This photo has been copied and moved around too many times and now it is so small. If anyone has the ability to enlarge it without compromising image quality, I'd appreciate it. I'm in the green suit
