Odd Duck: "Magic Behrens" Folding Bike

My wife found this one handing in a barn this afternoon, emailed me a pic, and I said "offer $40." The seller said no, he wanted $175. My wife walked away, and he says "you wouldn't do $50?" and she said no, $40 was it. So he took it, and now I have it. I think it's a West German bike from...

    1917/1922 Harley Davidson

RMS37, points well noted. I got some feedback from another source that was troubled with the fenders as well -- obvious that they are red, and don't match the frame color. If they were swapped-out, it was obviously a very, very long time ago. I knew the wheels had been upgraded, as was often...

    1917/1922 Harley Davidson

Here's a picture of the original 29er wood hoops I've got to put on them. Just need to trade-out the rear sprocket (which I also have). Rims are in like-new condition -- not bent, out of round, etc. Came out of a relative's basement in the early 1980's when I was first getting into bikes...

    1917/1922 Harley Davidson

I was more than a little shocked to get the opportunity to own this bike. It's a Harley Davidson, exact year TBD, but we know that they were only made for 5 years: 1917 - 1922. This old fella is missing the head badge (likely scarfed some time in the last 10 years according to the original...

So the Speedster is now sold and in the hands of another Rat Rod Bikes member -- it's all good!

PM me an offer. I'm not emotionally attached to it. I will reject any offer OVER $100 if that helps.

J.C. Higgins - from original owner

I really appreciate the information. The fellow who sold it to me was born in 1939, so he couldn't have purchased it in the late 30's early 40's unless he perfected time travel. No matter what -- it's a great bike, and I'll enjoy bringing this one back to as-new condition.

Yes, it's a signal rack. It's going to need some new metal in one corner (brazing job) and then some new lenses. Aside from that, the bike is complete and undamaged. I've got a Monarch to do ahead of this project, so it probably won't get touched yet this year.

I'm 3 hairs southwest of Milwaukee in the Mukwonago/Waterford area. It's a paradise, I tell you.

The bell has surface rust, but works great! When you pull the chain, it rubs against the tire and rings. How cool is that?

    $20 bill landed this

I paid $20 for this Iron Horse Warrior frame, two Rock Shock front forks (Dart and Judy) in perfect condition -- Dart suspension forks look like they have never been used; headset, stem handlebars, nice alloy seatpost, seat, and a set of 26" alloy wheels with nice tires/tubes and Shimano...

So what is it? -- Scooped last weekend.

Paid $15 for this, thinking it had potential for something cool (I have a few ideas already). Anyone know what it might be? Has the Schwinn look to it. 26" wheels....

    Hit paydirt yesterday

In addition to a really nice J.C. Higgins I had to pay up for, I was able to score two Schwinns and a Western Flier Tandem. I'm keeping the black Schwinn to do a rat rod trail bike and will also keep the Western Flier (going to repaint that one). But if someone has an itch for the blue...

J.C. Higgins - from original owner

I was fortunate enough to buy this bike from the original owner, who went to Mitchell Street in Milwaukee to buy this bike in (he thinks) the late 30's or early 40's. He delivered newspapers on it for 3 years, and told us how he built a trailer to haul the Sunday editions around with it (must...
