I picked up this lot of vintage tobacco tins today. I really was just buying the Uncle Sam Union Leader one, and got the others in a bundle. I was thinking of using it to make a rear cover for the shifter. Who knows, it would also make a great battery pack. I still haven't decided if I will try to incorporate a tailight of taglight on starsNbars yet. Just keeping my options open. (The older Prince Albert actually still has a full plug of tobacco!!!).

I resisted the temptation to put this.

Always makes my want to say...

Is your refrigerator running? Well then you better go catch it.

Nice collection you picked up.

Awesome bike that in my opinion nails what this is all about, build cool stuff out of ordinary items. Perfect

Thanks Adam, That means a lot coming from you. Still wish you were in the build off.
You still owe us a photo of your latest RAT!!!!

COOL! I love the stretch you got from those rockers!! I can't think of a better member of the upside down rams club to join Gold Street Customs and I.
Nice work on that Hornet!

Had some fun in the shop after work. At the beginning of the build I had plans to use this jeweled tag light that I got from @ozzmonaut with a tag on the left seat stay, but every time I mocked it up, it just wasn't working for me.

Tonight I decided to try it under the seat between the bars.

Then I cut the trim ring from one of the belt concho stars.

Still need to work out the details on the tail light, but started playing with the tobacco tin. I love the graphics and patina on this tin.

Sliced back down the middle and bottom.

I was planning on covering the back of the shifter,

But I tried it on the front and liked it

So I sliced open the aged Prince Albert tin too and placed it on the back.

Then I cut a slot for the shift arm.
I still need to tighten it all up, mount it, cut the tin top to fit back on, etc

Last night when I was working on the tobacco tin shroud it was pretty cool up close. But today when I stepped back and looked how it worked with the rest of the bike, I hate it. Oh well, you never know until you try. It was fun to build and I'm sure I'll be able to re-use the tins on a future build somehow.

I am going to end up painting the existing shifter housing in the rust/polished rust starsNbars pattern.

Sweet tail light! the star makes it uber cool:cool:
Nice starry light.
Yeah…that tail light is sweet.

I very pleased with the light too. Did more work on it today. I found another modern taillight that fit better and used more of the spring steel to make up some bracket pieces.

I still haven't glued the star inside the lens yet. I also still need to paint the light shell.

Forgot to flip my RRB Calendar to July. Here is Ian's (@ifitsfreeitsforme ) Western Flyer Super from BO8.

I wasn't sure what to use for top caps on the lower front springs. After a few trys with different items I ended up up with handlebar end plugs. It's like they were meant for this use. The spring screw right onto it.

Well, most of the fab work and mechanicals are done now. I am almost at the point to start breaking it down to clean it up, paint the forks, apply the stripes, complete the cosmetic stuff, and final reassembly. I have a few biz trips in the next few weeks, but 22 days should be plenty of time to wrap it up. I would probably start disassembly tomorrow, but fellow RRBer @bfelt is in town and we may meet up for a ride.
