The cackle of the 3000-horsepower racing machines reverberates through the ears, the flames leap out of the engines in the dusk of the summer evening, the smell of nitro fuel permeates the air, as more than a dozen vintage Top Fuel dragsters simultaneously fire up their engines in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach.
This cacklefest is a highlight for thousands of racing and car show fans and is one of the special attractions at the Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show, which celebrates its seventh year on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
Located less than four miles from the site of the legendary Lions Drag Strip, the Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show features more than 200 classic and specialty cars in multiple award categories. This year's event will once again feature great music, food, vendors, and special appearances of the drivers and dragster owners who made Lions the drag racing capital of southern California.
The Dragster Expo and Car Show is the signature annual event in Bixby Knolls, a community which features a mix of boutique retail and fine dining in a pedestrian-friendly, mid-century ambience with vibrant and affluent neighborhoods.
