I was driving to work and saw a pile of junk with a sign that read "FREE" and in that pile I noticed a shiny BMX so I stopped.

I am thinking it is a 1983 Mongoose Expert Chromoly frame with the proclass front wheel, back wheel was missing.

Anyone have any more info?

1983 Mongoose, Taiwan made...either Expert or Californian. I believe Expert due to the head badge decal. December bike.

(duh on the Expert...its right on the seat tube...didn't notice it at first)

Here is serial info: http://www.vintagemongoose.com/frame/serials.php

Great score...free is my favorite price!

Thanks! I tooknow some light steel wool to the frame and the rust comes right off. It's going to clean up nicely.

Diet Coca and alumin foil is even gentler than steel wool. Used it successfully many times on car bumpers without scratching the chrome. The cola has enough acid to be worth the sticky mess

Great bike, are you thinking of finding a matching rear rim, or swap to a different set.

I hope you can locate the correct rear wheel and tire. It would be nice to have it back in original condition.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I think I'll probably clean it up and sell it as is.
Finding a rear wheel looks to be fairly expensive.

i read the title, and was ready to say i'll take it! sorry to say I gave one like it away with a couple other bmxers before I knew what I had some years ago. :arghh:
