I was at a rummage sale this morning, talking to an older guy about a bike he had for sale (a 24" Hawthorne balloon tire). I was on the fence about it, and told him I was going to drive around and think about it. But I stayed and talked for almost an hour, because he and I got along really well and had a interesting conversation going. Right before I actually left, another guy came by to look at fishing lures. He saw me looking at the bikes, and told me that he just bought a place. There was an old bike in an old shed that he was going to bulldoze next week, but I could come look at it if I wanted. So I did and found a Monark Rocket. It's very rough, with a tweaked fork. But I can save it. Best of all, it was free.
Good bike karma came my way.
On my way out of town, bought a Schwinn Continental for three bucks.
And I have the number for the rummage sale guy, as he has other bikes he wants to show me.
A good day.
