i was just looking at a couple on ebay. i have 4 different projects that are stopped cold 'cause i have a hub i want to use, and sometimes the rim, but no way to come up with the right size spokes for them (let alone that i'd need to learn to lace them too).

the wheel building prices i get at shops pretty much blow any budget for each bike out of the water. for at least two of the projects i need shorter spokes than i took out, so i'm thinking i could cut them down nd rethread them.

can anyone tell me about them? will one work with any guage spoke, or you need one for each guage (or a couple that cover the range together)? too over the top for someone who builds for their own enjoyment (not a seller i mean)?

thanks for any thought on it.
