If I remember right, you live in So Cal. You're worried about 'mud clearance' ?![]()
50 mm would the equivalent of 2.0 width. I think you might be surprised, remember, the rim width will affect the 'shape' of the tire profile.

The clearance problem was between the chainstays. They narrow up pretty quickly when wheel diameter is increased. My 2.35 tire is on a rim with a 30mm internal width, BTW.
