This probably belongs in the "how-to" section, but thought this was too good to bury there. I have used this method and as long as you observe some basic safety precautions, it's fine. You can also use salt as an additive instead of baking soda. If you really want to go crazy, you can use "Root Kill" but don't burn your face off and blame me. **do this at your own risk**
There is also a similar process to this that you can etch brass with using a laser printout as a resist, ideal for making headbadges. Available on wwww.steampunkworkshop.com under "Etching Altoid Tins"
