I got a vintage pair of NOS Schwinn Spitfire whitewall tires and when I aired them up (not over-inflated) one of them split in the tread area. The split is about 2" long and is not getting any worse....Can you super-glue the split? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I love the looks of these old tires. Thanks, Gary

Make a boot! (I don't know where I heard that term but it stuck). Take a similar sized tire you have lying around that's too far gone to use and cut out a 3" long section or so of that minus the wire bead. Set that U-shaped section inside your tire where the split is and, once the tube is in, it won't go anywhere. You can glue it in place but I've never had to. It adds a little weight but it's unnoticeable when you're riding.

The nice thing is you can use the same tire many-a times. I've made 3 or 4 from an unrideable tire and have enough left to make 20 more. Good luck!
