Well i got this idea yesterday. And today I made it happen. HAHAH! Heres what I got.
I started with a used Huffy Green Machine that I picked up from a guy on Craigslist for $20.
I stripped it down to the main frame and steer axle
I then cut off about 5" from the rear of the main frame and notched it to clear a support bar that was welded on the steer axle
After some careful measuring for trueness I welded the steer axle to the main frame
With the rear welded up i focused on the front fork next.
I cut the factory fork section off of the main frame
I also cut the same fork section off of another bike that I picked up today as well.
Once the two for sections were mocked up I then proceeded to weld them together. And then grind. And then weld some more... lol
Now that the fork was good I moved onto the neck. I used a piece of 2x2x3/16" steel square stock.
I roughed in an angle and ground out a recess for the neck tube.
All that was left was to attach the neck and downtube to the lower frame section. I attached the seat and moved it to the furthest rearward position. I then cut out a 2x3 opening into the top of the lower frame section.
With the two halfs roughly fitted together I ran a finish weld around the top seam.
On the bottom side I bend what was left of the lower frame section up to meet the downtube and finish welded those two pieces together.
Once the fab work was completed... this is what i ended up with.
