Hello I am Needing help with a bike ID. I was told it is a 1940 Hawthorne But im not sure. I am Building a pure ratrod as when i get a tank it is the only thing painted on the bike.

The "pinwheel" chain ring seems appropriate, but there are other traits to this frame that has me thinking that it may not be a Hawthorne. Most examples I've seen from that period sport curved seat stays, a longer tank, and ONE reinforcing tube that runs parallel to the ground.
The "04 EH" code is indeed 1940, and made by the Snyder co. That chain ring was exclusive to Hawthornes, so I'd say chances are it is one. -Adam
