How to paint old Schwinn head badge?

I'm working on restoring a 1964 Schwinn. The head badge paint was in horrible condition so I took if off and stripped it down to the metal. How do I go about painting this thing? Do people actually just use a steady hand and a paintbrush to paint the letters or what? I see some people on eBay on "manufacturer" reproduction head badges and I can't image they are hand painting them cause they look really good.

I use paint pens to paint mine.

I think the re-pop badges are probably screen printed.
