Info on starting a charity bike ride

Ive been dreaming since i was a kid to do something large and beneficial for the community and increase the popularity of building bikes locally.

How would I even start?

Find some existing charity rides in your area, and contact them directly.
Ask for the director, and tell them what you want to do and ask for advice.

The other thing that comes to mind is to volunteer to work an existing ride.
I bet you would learn a ton about the internal workings and requirements.
