So for the shifter... I’ll give this a go.
I saw this somewhere on the internet. Affix a piece of handlebar to the frame and use a Gripshift twist style shifter on it. Cut an old handlebar, bolted it up through one of the numerous existing holes and mounted one of the many twist shifters from the salvage bikes I have, turned the bike back over and...
I put it on the wrong side of the frame

Needed it mounted on the left side to route the cable over to the right side.

Of course, none of my salvage bikes have a rear derailleur that will work with the modern mountain frame and quick release wheels so I had to use one of my spare road derailleurs. Seems to index alright. Hoping I’ll be able to adjust it to work perfectly when I get the chain on it. That’s tomorrow’s first order of business.
Tick, tock goes the clock...

Chain on and derailleur indexed.
It’s a rider now.

Took it out for a spin around the neighbourhood this morning (in the rain).

Brake cabling tomorrow morning and a few more small aesthetic issues to deal with, top up the air in tires, then out to find some cool photo shoot locations.
It’s all good!!

Brake on, cabled up and dialled in.
Tire pressures topped up.
Off to find some background scenery.
I’ve got just over 13 hours left... phew!!

Decided it needed carbon fibre wrap on the front fork to finish it off.

Rubber fork boots to cap it off.

Well, for not intending to participate in this Build Off, I have to admit it turned out to be a whole lot of fun creating something out of my comfort zone and somewhat a re-creation of childhood memories. Now to decide which photo to use for the judging...
