New Project x2 - Both receiving the 24x3 Treatment

Rat ....... back again for some more fun.
I may make another thread for each individual bike and their progress, but for now (I'm too excited) here's a quick thread just to share with ya'll.
Like the title says, both bikes are gonna receive the 24x3 treatment. Front and Rear. The design for each bike is already implanted in my head... now to execute. :D

First bike is a prewar schwinn straight bar. Test fitted both frames for tire clearance. There's room with the prewar frame, but I may need to add spacers to the bottom bracket (2-3mm) just to be safe. We'll see once I get that far.

Second is a '58 schwinn. This frame took some spacing to fit the tire. Probably a good 3-4mm on each side of the wheel to pull apart the swing arms and slide the tire in. Check the pics. Clearance is close, real close... but as long as there is zero rubbing. Im happy. It's all part of modding these bikes :)

Not the best picture, but the clearance is the same on each side, top and bottom.

Cool projects and a cool logo. I can see why you're impatient to post them! (I would be too). The pre-war with the springer is particularly cool.

The tires: are they Fatti-O's ? What is the width at the widest point when installed on the rim? I too am also wanting to do the 24x3 (on the rear) tire on my '48 Schwinn. Gotta know what works and what doesn't before I buy the parts (yes, I know I've asked the same questions to just about everyone running 24x3's  )

OOoOoOoOoOOoO Niiiiice Bikes!

Manny, Manny, Manny these are looking goood! As a veteran rear drop out spreader i can tell you that it is particularly gratifying when you get the wheel in and it doesn't rub. No wonder you were in such a hurry to post pics!! Your choice of springer is perfect! What do you have planned for the front end of the other project? Keep us posted with project pics!

Nice Logo too!

Those bikes are going to look AWESOME!

Are those frames 26" with you mounting 24" wheels??? I'd like to swap out the 26" wheels on my cruiser for 24's .....to lower it a bit.

Also, your logo rocks......plan on selling shirts in the future I presume???

I might be getting one of them frames, KEEP UR FINGERS CROSSED! Hhaha

Multipass,

From the experimenting I've done with Kenda Kraze 24X3 mounted on a 24x1.75 rim the max width mic'd out to 2 3/4" wide(similar to the Fatti-o I think but I'd interested if anyone has measured one). This just fits on my 37 schwinn but you are at the back of the dropout and the wheel has to be really trued up, not much room for the chainline either depending on the setup, 1/2 or 1" pitch, offset in front or rear sprocket etc.

I've tried a 48 & a 50s post-war schwinn which don't really have enough backward adjustment to fit easily without spreading the frame or at least bending the chainstay tube in around the area, seat stay looks fine on both. You almost have to deflate the tire to get the wheel on. Then the chainline is tight. But there are several ways to handle the chainline issue, much easier than the frame.

Thanks for the info socal_jack. I was thinking of using the Kraze 24x3 tire (I have the 26x2.125's right now) on my '48. I'll probably stick with the 26's for now.
