Kind of a late start and not much time in my normal life to begin with, but I'm game. Probably won't finish in time but hey, it'll be fun.

I'm gonna do the wife's trike, and the theme is Picnic. Yep, it'll have the best basket you've ever seen on a beat up bike.

And last night I tore the rusty thing down in less than an hour.

So my plan is, do it red with ape hangers and a big wicker basket on the back. I will need to make a support frame for the basket but I forsee no other fab work. Just lots of cleaning and fitting.

nice, we need more trikes in this buildoff.

looking forward to your progression.
ya know, you could use bolt on frame extensions(metal bars) and stretch that mofo right out. :) (like a hill climbing dirt bike with the extended swing arms. :) )

I've started stripping the black off the chrome rear end and I dug out this stuff. These parts are subject to change but a lot of it was bought for this bike a long time ago.

Today is my day off. So I swung by my friend's shop "Olsen Motorsports" and did a little fab work.

So I dug through his scraps to see what I could use for my rack that will hold the big basket. Then some cutting and trimming. I was able to find bent pieces for 3 sides and only had to bend 1 more.

So now this is today's work. I also dug through The ol' spray paint collection and found one I bough years ago for the '59 Caddy model kit. I still have to give it test sprays. It's a light pearl pink, the wife loves it and it's her bike.

Krylon, should still work as it was never used. I found the Testors metallic red too but not much left in the cans. I may try scallops with those.

Dang I didn't realize I have almost no time left. My next days off are the first and second. On the first my wife works at 2 leaving me with the little ones. Can't get any work done with them. I just got them to sleep tonight so I might go work a little. Tmorrow I have rehearsal and then monday night my band is playing. So I have tues and wed nights after the kids fall asleep to do something. I guess I'll just touch up the black paint for now instead of the pink. I'll tear it back down later and do a real paint job. As you guys see I had some parts I bought a few years ago when I planned on doing this bike, but I can't find the headlight I bought for it and it's driving me a little crazy. If it's not in that last box in the bike shed then it must have been stolen when we were living in the old apartment. Just an Electra torpedo that the wife specifically asked for. At least I have enough parts to make this bike complete. The only things I have bought during the build off were the rubber strips for inside the rims for $3. Sorry about the rant, gonna go make sure the kids are really asleep then go get something done before the wife gets home from work.

Just a little update, as I figure I gotta post something.

Frame is now all black, but the chainguard I just primered tonight. Gonna add a little color the the guard but the frame will probably stay this way.

And this little thing will be the bracket for the front fender. Attatches to the brakes on the forks and will throw it back a little. Not gonna have rear fenders.

I got the black paint off the headset and the whole rear end. I sure like chrome better. I mostly have assembly and cleaning left. I hope to have it done on Friday cuz Saturday I work then my band opens for The Chop Tops later that night.

I got out late last night after the kids fell asleep and started asembly. I also came up with a cool idea for my chainguard. Can't wait to do it, but I'm not letting on to what it is till the bike is complete.

Dr. Sizzle. I need to check your build. I look at a lot of them a while back but I don't recall seeing another trike.

The handle bars. I used the neck that was already attached to them, but it took forever to break the nut free so I could position them to the right angle.

And no I can't wait to tell of the chain guard. I can never keep secrets, so here we go. White vynil to match the seat.

I figured it had enough black paint that the guard needed to stand out. I got the material at Frank's Upholstery in Redding. I know him thru a friend but he was not there. His guy in the shop gave it to me since it as a small piece.

P.S. I had posted a" what bike is this?" for this bike a while back. With the 2 choices given I figured this is a Hawthorne because when I sanded the chainguard I found the stripe that matches that one.

Getting closer and cutting it close, it's my last update then we'll go on a picnic.

First had to go buy 2 chains from my place of work, Wallyworld.

Then painted the basket support frame Testors Ruby Red Metallic since I had 2 cans of it in the garage.

And have more assembly done, thumbs up to myself for a good job.

Another P.S.

I nixed the front fender, it's too narrow for these tires and no time to rework it, and I didn't like it without matching rear fenders anyway.
