I dug up my small backyard and put in a pumptrack, which is a track designed so that you dont need to pedal (pedalling is actually frowned on), and you get or keep speed by pumping over the continuous bumps and through the turns. Its actually a really good workout.
Heres a bigger faster version of a pumptrack

I wasnt too worried about drainage, but did make it so the water does pool towards the centre (garden). The track is on totally flat ground so i couldnt really drain it off the track. And didnt really wanna spend any money on drainage. Brisbane, Australia where i live went through really bad (1 in a 100 year) flooding at the beginning of this year, you may have seen it on the news. It rained for months it seemed, and the low spots in the track did fill but as soon as a day of sun they are dry and ridable again.

And i didnt wanna pay for any new soil (besides the topcoat of de-co) but just dug holes and put the dirt on the highground, much like how bmx dirtjumpers build their trails. If you did bring in soil ($$$$) it would drain better.

As i said, my pump track is definitely on the small side because its all the space i had. And have actually had 4 full size mountainbikes on the track at once. And i can go at a fast enough pace (no pedalling at all) to occasionally scare myself and get a .... good workout. Its very good bike control practice, teaches you corner speed and the art of pumping not to mention its a lot harder and more fun then it looks. You may have overlooked the video link i included, which shows exactly what im talking about and easier then trying to describe it, so heres a couple more of "small tracks"

That is so COOL  I wonder what my Dad would say if I tore up the yard like that :?:

what a cool idea to integrate it into a small yard with the garden! very clever! :D

Awesome, here in Kokomo, Indiana the sidewalks are so bad with tree roots everywhere that we have miles of pump track.....

Just beware the weather can change instantly without warning.
