Question on 3 inch wide tires

I have a question that I need answered on sizing on a 24 inch rim. I have a buddy that is wanting to put Berm Master tires on a 24 inch rim for his cruiser bike that he is building. His question is what is the smallest width rim that he can use to make this tire fit and work correctly. Does he need to go to the 50 mm rim or can he use a smaller mountain bike rim. I had mine mounted on 1.25" aluminum MTB rims and on a set of old drop center rims. A narrower rim will cause the tire to be taller and narrower than when mounted on the wide rims.

i only have one 24x3 setup. i put it on a regular 24" rim and it seems ok. i did it 'cause the only other 3" tire i've fooled with was on those 20" wcc choppers, and the rims on those aren't very wide. so i figured it'd be ok.

Thanks for the answers. So it sounds o.k. to run them on a wider mountain bike rim ?? I have never used a tire this wide so I had no ideas if these would fit or not. As always thanks for the input. Any other ideas please let me know. Leo
