Re: Rat Salad - 7/1 - IN GREEN!

just went to the used pike parts store, which is the closest thing to a bike junkyard Ive ever seen and found some pedals

so which pair should I use? the specialized platforms or the sugino pd1000's that are built for toe clips? I seem to have lost one of the old block pedals I was planning on using so it will be one of these two

Toe clips and reflectors...meh. The specialized have bite and fit the build. By the way this is my favorite build by far!!! I wanted to go this route but chickened out last minute. Props to you and your concept. I wouldn't have been able to hang anyway. I've said this before but I am green with envy! Also please keep the tunes coming. Here's one for a rainy day...

If you like Sir Lord Baltimore, check out this cover of Woman Tamer performed by Broadsword!

let me introduce you to Serpent Throne, one of the best instrumental bands I've ever heard.

It's hard to pick a song, because their albums kind of need to be listened to as a whole

Kismet! Found out about these guys during a conversation at last years Kyuss/Sword show. Never heard of broadsword though but that cover rocks! I'll be checking out that compilation too. You seem to have your finger on the pulse of my musical tastes! Oh and that compilations title reminds me of another great cover band, Suck. Here's an original one from them, but I'm sure you know about them already! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm1R2mW_ ... re=related

Re: Rat Salad - 7/1 - IN GREEN!

saw the sword with karma to burn in portland a couple years back, then drove 17 hours to see the sword and kyuss in pomona, ca last summer. bought tickets way in advance because they were not going to play portland, then they ended up doing a show up here later in the tour. got to meet scott reeder before the show while I was eating spicy fish tacos around the corner from the venue. He was mad because he really wanted to play the pomona show, but nick oliveri was throwing a hissy fit over who got to play and scott gave in to save on the drama.

check out http://www.aftersabbath.com
this guy rich from new Zealand made a blog of compilation albums that are just amazing. thats where Ive found most all the 70's rock I listen to.

also, check out red fang's music videos on the youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGgwZeYj57Y

not the best, but they are the best local band to me around. the videos are awesome and the live shows are great. going to see them in september when they get back from europe!

Re: Rat Salad - 7/1 - IN GREEN!

and broadsword is kind of a supergroup, guys from the obsessed, white zombie, and some other band. I think they only recorded the one sir lord baltimore cover, or at least thats the only recording ive been able to find.

they made two sucking the 70's comps, bought them both from allthatisheavy.com a couple years back. those were my introduction to all the amazing obsure 70's rock bands that make up the bulk of my music now

Re: Rat Salad - 7/1 - IN GREEN!

Crazy story considering all the drama surrounding Kyuss lives! I'll definitely check out that blog site, here's one that turned me on to a bunch of obscure classic gems - http://orexisofdeath.blogspot.com/. Red fang is gr8, I love their videos! Here's an Oregon band I found out about when I lived in Bend for a year. Not my cup o tea but found one I remember liking - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtEY8gaUXdQ. Fun chatting about music sho nuff but how bout you bump this post with a bicycle update and soundtrack to boot! Some folks here might be  at us chatting up jams instead of your build.

Re: Rat Salad - 7/15 - paint almost done, wheels built

frame is ready to hit with a little 600 grit before final clear

and got the wheels built and true. found a matching araya hoop so I could ditch the dented steel rim that I had on the back before, and switched to a shimano coaster hub instead of the sturmey. I decided to switch so I wasn't relying on the front brakes only to stop, and the shimano hub opened up the options for shifters. after lacing I still need to touch up the satin black on the spokes.

Re: Rat Salad - 7/15 - paint almost done, wheels buil

dumped the fifth can of clear on just now, and I think the paint is done. still have one can left, but I'm pretty happy at the moment.

Re: Rat Salad - 7/24 - ready for assembly

No sunshine today, but the paint is as done as it will ever be and the frame is ready for assembly! I'm not a big fan of the Krylon Fusion clear. I used it because I didn't want to chance the clearcoat melting the flake, which is spray can glitter rather than real metal flake. Much like what I've read about it online, it has become slightly fogged in spots. This could have been a high humidity issue when I was painting, and Ive also read that UV exposure will clear it back up. I'm done with the paint regardless, the last few tiny blemishes in the paint I've tried to fix have just come out worse than they were before.
