Hey all,I recently picked up this sweet old Adler bike.I have been looking everywhere for info on this thing.I know that it was made sometime between 1948 and 1954 in Germany,it's rare, and it's itchin to be revamped.I found it collecting rust in a neighbors backyard and had to have it.If anyone knows anything about this bike, please let me know. Here are some pics, hopefully someone out there can help me.Thanks

Dang, thats a neat one. The chainring and fender ornament are great.

The only thing I can tell you is "Adler" in German means "eagle". I collect German military stuff and I'm going to have to post a pic of the chainring on the military forum. That thing is too cool. Gary

Hey all,Thanks for the compliments. When I saw this bike I had to have it.It's just very unique and the eagles made it that much more awsome.I just can't seem to find alot of info on these things.Debating whether to completely restore it or just slap on some new tires and ride it away.Cheers

Ok,so I've had this bike sittin for awhile and I finally got around restoring this thing. The original tires were 28" anf they were shot. I cannot find any modern tire size that will fit these rims that doesnt have an inch of slack. Does anybody have an idea of where I could look to find a tire to fit? Help please...Thanks

ebay? Also try PM'ing forum member rms37 (Phil) he's our resident old bike historian. Also the guys over at the CABE, or the Classic Antique Bicycle Exchange might be able to help. But honestly, unless you are willing to spend several $$ you might consider going with a more 'modern' 26" or even a 27". A 700c wheelset might be a good choice...Most modern European bikes run that size wheel and the selection of tires (or tyres  ) is good...Good luck!

saw this bike on kijiji. its from holland.

its really too bad we don't see more of this kinda thing.

sweet ride bud.

are they clinchers or single tube tires?
clincher will take a tube separate from the tire/single tubes the tire is also the tube
forgot to say great looking project

I found some info on the dutch wikipedia,

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adler_(bedrijf)

it says, that they started out building bicycles, typewriters, cars & motorcycles
taken over by Grundig in '58. no specified info on their bicycles.
I did find an add for a headbadge though.

I found out that they had a BB 3 speed bike a some point, and where technicalwise frontrunners.

There's a dutch adlerclub(dutch language); http://www.adlerclub.nl/pages/index.php

And a german club(german/english); http://www.adler-veteranen.de/engl/eamvchom.htm

It somtimes helps if you try searching with the language own word for bicycle, german word for bicycle = fahrrad.

If you search for ; adler fahrrad

google pic's http://www.google.nl/images?hl=nl&q=adl ... a=N&tab=wi

google; http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=adl ... a=N&tab=iw
This is all in german but if you would like to find out more about it i will try and put some effort in, and search if there is something about identifying adlers.

I hope this info helps, or at least is fun for you.

Search the old tires and rims hard, for any numbers or letter designations. There's too many "28" " wheels that have been made for that designation to mean much. If you're lucky, the tires may have an ISO designation, if not, a different set of rims may be your best solution.
