About to begin the restoration process on this one. I'm a bit undecided on what to do though. Part of me wants to keep it as original as possible and then another part of me wants to customize it a bit to suit my liking.

If I customized it a bit, I would probably have the frame powder coated the Yamaha ORANGE from the 70s and I would run a 20" x 2.125" wheel up front. The original set up runs a staggered wheel set with a 1.75" in front and a 2.125" out back. I like the look of the wider wheel so if I can find a front 2.125" Araya for the front I'll go with that instead.

I'd need to strip the spray paint off of the front shocks since they were originally bare metal.

I'm missing the original seat, seat bracket, rear fender and the chainguard.

Re: 1976 YAMAHA MOTO BIKE PROJECT

I always love your builds. No matter wich way you go, I know it will be great. Also quick question...Do you buy all these bmx and muscle bikes online, or is your towns CL that rich with vintage bike treastures?

Re: 1976 YAMAHA MOTO BIKE PROJECT

Thanks! :D

I actually bought this one off of a forum member about a month ago.

I usually find them locally though. I've only bought a handfull of bikes online.

Actually...it didn't really produce very many results.

I ended up taking off because it embarrassed my wife...LOL!

What? Thats crazy! I was thinking of getting one for my truck. People at my school love what I do. They like my bikes. Especialy old school BMX! BMX is a huge sport where I live. One of the biggest tracks in the south is a few minutes away from my house and everyone respects anything BMX old or new school. Cruisers on the otherhand isnt really understood around here .

Just scored this 20" x 2.125" ARAYA chrome front wheel off of a BMX Museum member.

Re: 1976 YAMAHA MOTO BIKE PROJECT

Now here's my next question....

This flare in the seat tube that was created by someone jamming too big of a seat post down into it.....do I try to fix it and risk messing it up even more or do I just leave it as is and hope nobody notices?

Someone suggested I try using one of these with a vice...

That's funny, didn't even think about that.

I was thinking of using a decal to cover it up a bit.

Good idea!
