I think it is just as cool as any bikes that I have made before but far more practical than most of them!

Luke.
That's a testament to your brand of builds when a bike with a 120 tooth chain ring is considered 'practical'!:43:

Good job, I'm glad that you didn't go with the majority vote on the smaller ring.;)

Thanks TRM! I am surprised as anyone just how well the bike works, I guess because I always rode my road bike in top gear, up and down hills and from a standing start, I just like pushing a big gear...

With your skills 1HP, you could make a really nice one! Getting the big Sprocket is the hard bit, now that Barnbikes is not making them, he may be willing to send you the cutting program he made for mine for you to get it done locally, that is fine with me...

Episode 17:

So I know this build has been "done" for a while now, but it will soon get a revisit!

I have never been game to try for top speed on those over-inflated sanded down BMX tires, so to kickstart the revisit I have two of these coming along with matching tubes:

20x1.65 100psi Maxxis Roamers.

I will at the same time switch out the 20 tooth freewheel for the 18 tooth off the swingbike and probably switch it to standard drop bars, once it is all dialled in and I am happy with it, it will get stripped back and powdercoated to finish it off.

Stay tuned!

Luke.

I had been leaving it with the 20 tooth rear and upright bars because this was my practical everyday bike, now I have the Joker build to take that role, this one is getting more specialised... ;)

Luke.

So, my new tires arrived today, very happy with them! They should roll much nicer!

They are 100psi rated so will be able to pump them up much harder and they are also 50mph e-bike rated too, so speed should not be an issue...

Started pulling off the old front tire when I noticed this:

I guess inflating a 40psi rated sanded down bmx tire to 60psi was asking for trouble...

Should not have that problem with these:

Note how narrow they are in that last pic, these are not wide bmx rims, they are the 1" wide alloy ones, and the tires do not come much past the sides!

Starting to get excited about this build again, if I am honest I lost excitement on it about half-way through the build originally, but now with the correct tires and a switch to more vintage looking drop bars and possibly some frame mods, it will be more my style... ;)

Luke.

Ok, so here is the plan: Lose the drink bottle holders and race number from behind the seat, change to racing drop bars and add some sort of secondary top bar/arch bar arrangement:

Get that all done and dialled in and then send it off for a powdercoat in a cream colour and add some brown pinstripes...

What do you think?

Luke.

Did you ever get this repainted?
Not yet, I started thinking about 451mm wheels instead of the 406's that are on there, and then lost a bit of interest...

Maybe this needs to come back forward in the 'To do' list...
Thanks for reminding me!

Luke.
