Should it be this hard to adjust a front derailleur?

Vintage bike lovers, I'm at a loss. I took apart a front derailleur and putting it back together has me stumped. A friend helped me connect the chain guide to the main body, forcing it under tension of the spring. It took both of us to manipulate it plus sheer muscle. Glenn's says the spring...

BRAKE LEVERS - I got em off... now I need to put em back on!!

With persistence and elbow grease, I was able to do it... and now I'm going to tear the entire bike apart and put new stuff on. I figure it's time to start learning how to take care of bikes with cables and shifters. Thanks to everyone who replied!

BRAKE LEVERS - I got em off... now I need to put em back on!!

I was worried I was going to hear that. That's what I tried before giving up and posting here. The square piece doesn't snap into the band at all, and compressing the bare lever to get at that internal bolt is dang near impossible. The job seems to require more hands and eyes than I've got at my...

BRAKE LEVERS - I got em off... now I need to put em back on!!

My domain is single speed coaster bikes. I'm useless when it comes to hand brakes. I took the bars off a '70s Schwinn Varsity to put on some different ones, and now I can't figure out how to put the brake levers back on. Someone, please explain this to me like I'm a small child...

    Loose headset on '80s BMX

Crap! I've corrected the fork issue. Thanks to everyone who's chimed in with information. Picked up some spacers from my LBS and the difference is night and day. Maybe someday I'll throw on a gyro but in the meantime this does the job. Really appreciate the insight on these bikes guys. Now I'll...

    Loose headset on '80s BMX

I found a 1987 GT Performer at my local Goodwill. Great condition and only $50. Replaced tubes, overhauled BB and headset. Headset was loose when I got it. I was unable to adjust the headset properly even after disassembly and replacing the bearings. The locknut won't budge on the threads of the...

Well that's a new one... (Seized Locknut)

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm going to get my hands on a torch later this week and see if that does the trick. And yes, I know they're left-hand threads!!

Well that's a new one... (Seized Locknut)

Picked up a Dec '72 Schwinn Varsity for $20. I've been tearing it apart to get at the 40 year old internals and make sure it's riding ready for a buddy of mine. First I overhauled the whole front end of the bike. That went by quickly and smoothly. OK, time to move on to the back... but I can't...

    Scrapyard run (Muscle bike edition)

WOW!! Color me green with envy. A treasure trove of beat up muscle bikes... it's the stuff that dreams are made of. The Spyder's looking great!

    i am picking up...

For Western-themed bikes, Huffy also had the Rawhide, and for the girls, the Desert Rose. I have a Coast King version of the Rawhide. The Schwinn Manta Ray has 24" wheels, but they're hard to find. The Sears Spyder had a 24" version. I'm sure there are plenty others. Like onex29er's friend I...

NEW MAMA Coast King Wild West

I've been prowling Craigslist ever since getting my Stingray trying to find more cool old bikes. This is my second purchase, a Coast King Wild West. The guy had lost interest in her. Maybe you can turn her into a garden bike, he said. Or use her for parts. I thought about all the fun I had...

Comin' back from some mill in Wisconsin

Hey folks, I'm 21 and a lover of all things that GO. I got a '70 Stingray early this summer and it needed a lot of work and elbow grease to get all the squeaks, creaks, and oddities smoothed out. I'm still sinking my time and money into it, and love doing it so much I went and bought another...
