Got the rear wheel back from chrome.

So now I need to return the center to black. So I scuffed the chrome and shot it with etch primer.

Here’s the evolution:
- wanted a mag front wheel for the drag fork, opted for the Skyway.
- I bought a set because of price.
- I bought them white because it’s going to get painted.
- he said he wanted a disc brake in the front. I told him he was insane. That it couldn’t be done. It’s impossible. Then I told him I could do it.
- I had found the disc adapter and realized I needed to use the rear wheel as the front and mount the threads on the left.
If you go back through the build, you’ll find where I realized the consequences of using the 110mm wide rear wheel, in that the fork plates needed to be an additional inch wide, luckily I have the means to facilitate that change.
- Today it all came together.

Today was about mounting the fender and setting the brace. So we (I have a welder from work I’ve hired) played around with ideas and configurations and landed on drilling a hole through the brace, setting the length inside the fender by mounting it, then tacking the bolt to the brace.

Then I cut the bolt head off, and smoothed it. He filled in a couple small gaps, then I smoothed those and was left with this.

Then we set up the whole deal and tacked the brace on.

He’s going to finish off the welding and then smooth all the welds out. I’ll have it back next week to figure out the light mounting before the forks go to chrome.

That makes perfect sense and it’s sick! Will be archiving this gem!

Fantastic install. There are some slightly less modern rotors out there if you're so inclined. I know Tektro makes some that are fairly round. Looks like it might be mounted backwards? Looking good.

This was the roundest I found that fit. I tried a vintage Shimano... that didn't work. So this fit the bill and everything has been built around it. So this is it.

Yah tough to find round ones. This is one I have. Avid. Be happy to send it your way but sounds like you’re set.

The hold up on this bike has been two things:
1) unbearable heat in the garage and my inability to buy a swamp cooler to make it bearable after work. (Too much else to pay for)
2). The plastic repairs have been difficult to say the least. I’ve taken as many steps backwards as I have forwards. I finally got it to a point of acceptability. It’s not up to my perfectionist standards, but I’ve had this bike for 6 months and the owner is itchy for it.

So… once I got the edges done I cleaned it up and shot it with black.

After curing for a couple days I taped off the black and sanded the mags.

And shot it with silver.

I’m going to let it cure for a few days. I’m deathly afraid that silver will be affected by fingerprints even after curing. Maybe I’ll wear latex gloves?
