I've pretty much decided not to repair the cracked frame on my STR Quadangle and will transplant components onto a new S&M ATF frame.

But have a few questions before I pull the trigger. And before I ring the shop thought I'd ask the collective:

1. The STR has an American Bottom Bracket and the S&M has a Mid - I have a Profile elite crankset and BB on the STR - the bearings are the same size - just without the cups?

2: I also have a Chris King 'No Threadset' (With cups) on the STR and the S&M headset is integrated - same question - will the bearings work do ya think?

I googled but couldn't find any solid data.

TIA.

I have never done it but my understanding is that the bearings for American and mid are the same. The Profile site even lists them as one sku

Now the headset is a good question. Is the integrated flat or a tapered bottom?

A couple of months ago, I was looking for sealed American BB (50.8mm) bearings in case I entered the upcoming ORBO. The impression I got was the bearings for American and Mid are the same. The difference is for the American setup, you get a couple of spacers/cups that the standard sized brg presses in to.....

What is the brand name and bearing number you currently have?

Cheers.
The build is almost 8 years old, so I've probably lost that data, but I'll have a surf around the profile site.

Agreed.

I don't know, either way its not a deal breaker.

This will be my entry into ORBO.

Bars and saddle - not the post.

If I get the clear coat raw finish I might get the bars to match.

The BB bearings worked fine, American to Mid after I tapped them out of the cups. The headset would work sans cups too, but the Chris King top cover is too short / bearing is too thick - and leaves some of the bearing exposed. Looks a bit unsightly. So, I'll get a Colony headset to suit. On order.

I bought a S&M 'Credence' Stem and a nice Die Compe seat clamp while I was collecting it. I got some S&M grips too.

The frame is beautiful. Translucent red paint over the chromoly and it pops.

Things that didn't work.
The Big Apple tyres - not enough clearance - but I have some Thickslicks in stock that will work for now. I'd like something better off road to match the 'ATF' (All Terrain Frame), eventually.

The half-link chain is one link too short. I have spare links, but no joining pin - and it's 8 years old - so I ordered a nice new CULT chrome job. Need some brake cable outer as well.

So now we wait for those parts.

I had a 25.4mm straight post in stock and have been wanting to use this classic VG seat guts on a project forever. It doesn't work with lay-back posts - but it suits this 'build' perfectly. The seat post will drop a bit once I get it set.

Should this be moved to 'Builds' now?
Happy if mods move it or change title.

Gorgeous!!

Postage is slow - time of year - so I used an in-stock brake cable to make it ridable and I'll put the silver braided on when it arrives. That should finish it off nicely - for now.

Very happy with the scale of it - it looks like a BMX - but it's huge.
