Time for a rebuild for my 40th anniversary Big Ripper. The build is going to be based around Panaracer's teal blue tyres.

Started with a silver fluted post. Cleaned and scuffed the 'inner' of the flutes, then sprayed on some purple 'ano'.
Once dried, I used some thinners on a rag to wipe off the excess. Should match in nicely with the anodised components.

Stripped off all the old decals.
I was a bit worried about the chrome on the fork, seems to be clear coated, and got roughed up by the caramel wheel when taking off the old decals. A quick buff bought the lustre back thankfully. So into the acid bath to soak for a few days to clean up a small amount of rust.
I could paint them to match the frame, but think chrome will suit the theme better.
Snuck a foot pic in there to keep up with the cool kids

Mixed up some paint this morning, from leftovers. Nice match with the tyre colour. Looks a little greener in person than in the pic.

This was meant to be a pic of the frame in primer. But that was a fail!
I scuffed up the frame with a scotch brite, plus a sand on any scratched that had broken through the clear coat. I thought a prime with etch primer would be a good idea, to ensure a good bite on any bare aluminium. But! The primer fried the clear coat and turned it to mush. So out with the paint stripper and clean it back to bare metal all over.
On the upside, this has given me an idea to incorporate some raw alloy into the paint job.

Clear coat all done. Added a little teal into the clear to 'candy' the rear end. Not sure i love the Candy effect. I'll sleep on it.

Did some assembly this morning, getting it together for a look with the paint and anodised components. Happy with the combo. But not happy with the finish on the frame. I will tear it down for a repaint.
I temporarily fitted up the red wheelset so I could go for a short ride. Love this thing. I did fit a chain after the pics lol.
The VP pedals were a little tight out of the box, so slipped the seals out of each end, loosened the assembly, and added a little oil to get things moving nicer, then nipped the nuts back up and refitted the seals. Spin much nicer now.

I like the class breaking entries, I keep in scrolling up to check if this is actually ORBO. I'm really liking the look of the 700x38 tires, and it is surprising me. I have never used anything smaller than 26x1.75, so this is a real eye opener.

I've ordered some teal bass boat flake to re paint this one. That should really bring it to life. Never done a flake job, but always wanted too. The time has come

I'm with you guys...they don't protect you from weld splatter or grinding but they help with bumping that big toe!
