pulled an old ross out of the scrap pile, google brought me here 😵‍💫

A Ross Europa actual 10 speed. Probably the 70's. Some owner had replaced the factory fork and one of the sidepull brakes. Son was given this bike in non running condition by a neighbor. The front wheel is a replacement wheel gotton from a scrap heap with a wonderful high end hub and aluminum...

    What a Kent.

I see you have been introduced to the horror, excuse me, honor of the 5 speed freewheel system. Having grown up on these old systems my take is this. First the 5 speed chain is quite wide, they started narrowing the chain to get more speeds till you have really narrow and quick to wear out...

Do you like really tall old road bikes or really small old road bikes?

I posted a couple of my "bigs" before. This is another active part of the stable. A 1980's Nishiki Sebring in 69cm frame size. Tiz a giant. This bike is my fastest bicycle. It has a Nishiki 3 tube chrome moly frame and and earlier era Kabuki front fork. I got the bike for $25 complete but...

    Bonefish: The Afterlife

Looks like you need a wire stretcher. I have many projects that have taken longer than yours. It is always the getting permission from your creative side of the brain to touch the project that takes longest. That is a nice bike.

Memories of my 1966 Ross Barracuda -- the Lamborghini Countach of 1960’s bicycles

In 1975 or so my brother became the proud owner of a former Nevada Highway Patrol pursuit cruiser. This was a 1965 Chrysler Polara model police service car guaranteed to do 150mph. It had a certified speedometer. One day east of Reno/Sparks NV area on Hwy 80 a guy in a hotter Porsche model...

    New guy

Welcome. You'll find that you can assemble your parts stash in any order and if the final product can be called a bicycle we'll love it. Your Raleigh has an unusual order for the two sprockets. Are you changing gears by switching between these two sprockets? Some do this with two sprockets...

    Island Queen

Forgot to mention I've been rebuilding coaster brakes from various manufacturers since I was a kid and it still takes me several tries to get one back together properly. I don't do it very often so I forget all the nuances of reassembly and have to relearn them all over again just to forget it...

I like the design elements of your bike very nice. Keep oiling that coaster because as you will soon note the oil comes back out soon enough and cleaning the hub often will be necessary. The nice thing about coaster brake maintenance is that if you get a bearing in backwards it really won't...

    Klunker rebuild

Melted foot does not sound fun. I hope you have recovered fully. Like your paint scheme so far.

Lovely job on this retro motorized bicycle. I noticed the notches in the left rear wheel stays and was wondering if the rear wheel was hard to work out of the frame for flats and such. Your clutch handle reminds me of the reverse bar in steam locomotives. The steam locomotive reverse lever...

    Ratrod bicycle trailer and soapbox

After a lifetime of hauling dirt with wheelbarrows I see this. As they say once you see something you cannot unsee it. Wheelbarrow bins work so well as T rod style bodies. Excellent.

    VINTAGE MOUNTAIN BIKES

V brakes are more than adequate for Mtb Bike use. I live near the Sierra's and have raced in them. Long downhills at absurd angles happen and the bike rims get very toasty but other than that never had any problems with good Mtb rim brakes. Good luck with your great looking older Mtn Bike.

SOLD 1960 vintage Schwinn Continental suicide shift 10 speed

Cool old Schwinn Continental. Nice condition for its age.

Wheels for heavy rider. Need advice.

Grin Technologies sells 13/14 guage spokes cut to the proper length. These are best used on the rear wheel. I would check the rim to be sure metal deformation is not the problem. I use 36 hole Velocity Chukker rims in 700c. I have weighed to 286lbs with my present rear wheels with the 13/14...

Who are you? (with a bike of course)

After I saw how many "older" gentlemen were posting their pictures I thought I would post one of a youthful bicyclist with his iron steed. Couldn't find anyone so my wife took these pictures as we exercised the dogs at the Port of Sacramento. That helmet has a aftermarket brim to cut down on...

    Bandit Klunker

What a great looking bicycle. Your paint job turned out so well. With aluminum rims and good mechanical condition your speed comes from the tire choice. Jan Heine of Rene Herse Cycles says bicycle speed is most dependent on tire choices. With that great looking chainguard, somewhat like a...

All else being equal it looks like 1 1/2" taller is not a problem. Hopefully it has enough power.

Once the copper was installed I started to get a real steam punk vibe off this bike. I love what you are doing. I'm guessing that your motor is a flat head 4 stroke so I'm sorry to hear that your little side valve motor didn't have the mojo. It is certainly lovely to look at and not height...

I was paid to weld for two years once, steel garbage bins for front loading garbage trucks and other repairs as needed. That taught me that while you have that welding helmet on everything around you is catching on fire. The worst is when your clothing starts flaming or you drop a red hot...
