    Automatic bike shifter

The Sram isn't a kickback, it shifts at the same speed every time. If you keep pushing the pedals it won't drop back to low, until you let off and the arms drop back in. My old Bendix kickback hub was good. They were made in the 60's. But today the Sturmey Archer kickback is what I'm using...

    Automatic bike shifter

As with the others, they have a downside. I still have one I use and like it. It shifts when the hub spins fast enough for centrifugal force to swing arms out and catch the higher gear inside the hub. As it slows, the arms fold back in. Magic. Offroad when I hit bumps the arms grab high gear...

    Any ideas??

From what I've read on Takara, that "4" shows it to be a 1984 bike.

    STBO Mamachari

I did some more research on this bike. They are numerous in Japan and used for shopping and transport and are called Mamachari, Mom's bike. So the name change. I still have to go for a ride.

    Forgotten Dahon

The rain has finally let up and I'm headed north to a new place called the Baywalk to ride. I got the wife a folder at the local bike shop. It's a cheap Chinese made bike but I like to support the local economy. I had all afternoon to check it out. As usual, it needed lube in a couple places...

I have a red and white madwagon cruiser

Never heard of a madwagon. Is there a head badge with a name on it or a decal anywhere? Post a few pics.

    Serial number?

    Fixing up a Schwinn

Right after they stopped making them at the Chicago plant, they were made at different places in the US and overseas. With the copy of the traditional kickstand and the chain guard mount on the chain stay it's one of those from that timeframe, mid 80's. Later ones had the chain guard mount up on...

I'd like to see that 57 Higgins.

    Fixing up a Schwinn

You're right, only 5 numbers, I'll update my serial number notes. I stand corrected, it's not a 65. So it most probably is a post-Chicago made cruiser, like the one DesmoDog is showing. A good bike for a build even if it wasn't made in Chicago. I'd like to do some digging to see where it may...

MOD was a Sears bike. MOS is 1953 from a list I have, but I would need to research the whole thing again to try to get a better idea of what the N is for. There are various lists of Murray numbers out there, but the one I have used seems to be the best one.

I found a brake that fit, even with the oversize wheel. The frame has a lot of scrapes and pock marks, so I gave it a quick sanding and paint job to see if it's worth all the trouble of making it pristine. I'll have it powdercoated later if it grows on me. I also tried a lighter pair of...

    Fixing up a Schwinn

That's a frame made in Oct 1965. That's a later model lettering and may have been added along with the wheels. Some pics of the whole bike is needed.

early 1900s pre war CWC complete bike

    It's 1935 or 1936.

Most I've seen have the pointy dropouts, but the 50's had a rounded dropout. The chain wheel also shows it to be a Murray, the earlier ones had a solid midsection while the later ones were completely slotted.

    Romet Tyler with Questions

That's a good candidate for a bamboo paint job, all straight tubes. New seat too, it must have been a fixup project that someone lost interest in. Can you pull up on that shift bolt? It looks like it's in 3rd gear but hard to tell from the pic. If it won't move then it'll need to come off...

Definitely a Murray frame, early 50's from the looks of it.

I tried it. The spindle wasn't hollow so I had to find a bolt long enough with the right threads. There were none with the right threads so I used a standard bolt and it threaded into the spindle about 5 turns, which was enough to secure the bb adapter thing. I should have put the wrench on...

I checked the chain line and it's way off. The old bb extends out too far for any of my cranksets. I have a new sealed bb that is just right, but the old bb won't loosen up. I'll take it by the bike shop and let them get it loose. I tried the chrome fork, just barely enough room at the top...
