That stuff still works great for removing rattle can spray paint

Whoops, just realized I said the wrong store. The oven cleaner came from Walmart, not Dollar Tree. My bad

Pa-pow-da-na-POW! The magic can! The patina pattern on the tank is incredible! I'm so glad I used this method to remove the paint instead of sanding

This is most definitely the way. Raw steel and patina baby!

I'm melting! MELTING! Whodathunkit that dollar tree oven cleaner is more effective at paint removal than most paint stripping agents? This has only been on there for about 5 minutes and it removed just about all of the paint. Best of all, because the oven cleaner is non acidic and I'm using a...

Just got out of work. That was a really long day. Gonna relax by eating my strawberry sundae while waiting for my pizza to get done like a fat, single, 30 year old guy, then get to working on my bike

I really appreciate everyone's support for the direction I'm taking this build. I thought for sure I was going to anger the bike gods for defiling such an iconic bike. I'm finally going to get some stuff done on it this weekend. I've been working 12 hour shifts most of this week trying to get a...

From a shop in Germany to my front door in Michigan in less than a week. The shipping costs a ton, but they always have what I want in stock and get it to me super quickGot most of the bike stripped down last night but forgot pics

I want to be building my bike right now. Instead, I'm stuck at work doing a "little bit of wiring" on a high priority job

After a few hours of effort, SUCCESS! Thankfully the steer tube isn't damaged, it's just the fork legs that need to be straightened. I was worried that the bike may have been run over with something and there was a bunch of hidden damage. Looks like the worst of the damage is needing a new...

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot

Thanks! I sold off most of my custom bikes a few years ago and now I'm trying to build up a new fleet

    UNLIMITED Brutus

Kinda kicking around the idea of building a bike out of a few parts I have laying around. I have the 29er wheels that I built for a failed winter build off a few years ago, this new age Schwinn stingray fork, and a bunch of other stuff. This is a boy's Schwinn fork meant for a 16" front tire and...

Well, the one thing I was most worried about happened. The locknut is seized in place and refuses to budge. There is only one solution to this problem. FIYAH!!

Here she is in the most current condition. I've been hitting every nut and bolt with PB Blaster to make sure disassembly goes easy. Going to strip her down to her bare bones for the next phase of the project. Most of the chrome is shot, but I want to see if the fenders will clean up even just a...

Some inspiration pics for my build. Got a great deal on some EL wire recently, so I'm going to use the tank on the bike for battery storage

    TRADITIONAL Is that a HAWThorne?

Found some flyers from Evans, one is for the earlier model. This was definitely an expensive bike back in the day. I also found a cleaner example on the CABE and shamelessly store the pics. I'm not going to do a period correct, ground up restoration, I want to build this bike to look like...

We can still do two classes, right? If so, I'm going to do that one a little later. Still waiting on parts for that one, some of which are a few weeks out at the earliest

This is my starting point, a 56-57 Evans Colson Olympic. I saved it from a landfill about two years ago and it's been sitting ever since. The fork is bent pretty significantly, but that should be easy enough to fix. I'll get better current condition photos tomorrow after work
