Let's see your Cleveland Welding bicycles!

I couldn’t figure out the frame #, I think it might be a 1944. This is my first venture outside the Schwinniverse.

Let's see your Cleveland Welding bicycles!

Hey, wanted to acknowledge the inspiration you gave me to keep the bare frame on this bike I threw together a few weeks ago. I ended up using a 5/8” steel rod for a seat post; the lucky 7 I found on line was too short. The pedals are Polish. I don’t know the provenience of the odd stem. I...

Bought this frame and fork only on eBay a few weeks ago. Decided to leave it bare as possible. Pretty much done

    Versatile cargo Trailer

Great thread! I’ve been mulling over rigging up a trailer for some time so now I’m inspired… I’ve also wondered about seatpost vs axle attachment.

Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback hub operation

I just bought a wheel with the duomatic hub pictured above but haven’t messed around with it yet…

Yeah this guy has a bunch of fascinating videos. He lives in a “village” in northern Germany and apparently makes a living repairing and refurbishing these old hubs…

Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback hub operation

Any comments on the old Torpedo/Sachs kickback 2 speeds? I’ve been watching some videos a German coaster brake hub specialist posts on YouTube. Interesting stuff but I have no idea how many of these hubs are around here.

Interesting topic! In my neck of the desert (Yuma) we have a few decent designated bike lanes and a few bike paths. Road (pavement) conditions are generally poor. The roads are wide and straight and visibility is good so I ride on the road a lot but I prefer designated “bike spaces”. I agree...

    Step-Thru inspiration

Ride on! When I first started syncing with the klunker vibe ( only about a year ago) I quickly noticed you could find (lots of) step thru frames for half the price of a “boy’s” online. I’m pushing 70 and stops & starts are becoming a little trickier. Step thrus mitigate that a bit. I love...

Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback hub operation

Thanks for the data! I’m going to look for a duplicate cog online for the red band Bendix in case I want to return it to its original form after I start grinding. My dremel tool is pretty wimpy though.

Sorry about the derailment. No one got hurt.

    ORBO Step-Thru Klunker

I’ve been messing around with this for a few months now. I’m too tech deficient and lazy to figure out how to document a build properly. My approach is pretty random, careless and wabi sabi. The frame is a 1950 Schwinn. The rest is a Frankenstein mixed bag; Colsen crankset, unknown house painted...

Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback hub operation

Also glad you brought up the 1 inch chain thing. I like skiptooth drive trains for some reason so all of my old schwinns run them. I’ve had pretty good luck finding decent old chains for a decent price on eBay. Adding links is a bit of a pain; you just have to use a little more force. Cogs and...
