    SWB0 1948 Triumph

Ok. This bike is back in my possession. If you want to get caught up, just watch the YouTube link above. No progress has been made. If admins need to move this thread, feel free. So Ed, retired frame builder, decided he didn’t have time for this project. No worries. I brought it...

    Grease

Funny you mention this. I use the same park tool grease except I buy it in a tub. I have the same issue you describe when i fill my handheld grease gun with it. I have to unscrew the nozzle and degrease the nozzle to get it work. Then a few days later the same issue. I was thinking...

Left them in the hydrogen peroxide outside for over a week. Didn’t seem to do much.

    Step thru is a maybe

I could do it. After the holidays is fine with me too. I would most likely do more of a restoration than a crazy rat, but we’ll see. I have two Raleigh step thrus and someone recently offered me a third.

    STBO Good & Plenty

Looks right to me. Is that a new shifter? Looks new. Those shifters wear out sometimes. If you are having this much trouble I suspect hub is bad.

Attempting to whiten the spinner pegs with hydrogen peroxide and sunshine. Most tutorials say to use 12% hydrogen peroxide, but all I could find was 3%.

STBO Fashionably Late. (Temp. Name for now).

Does the coaster brake eliminator essentially turn it into a freewheel? If so will you only have a front brake? I like how this is coming together. I think the first chain guard looks better. Another idea would be no chain guard and a colored chain. Maybe white or orange?

    STBO Good & Plenty

Never-mind. I must be suffering from short term memory issues!!! Just watched your video again. I would say it is one of 4 things. -cable tension off , causing the gears to be in a neutral position. -wrong indicator chain -hub needs to be flushed to remove dirt and corrosion...

It is also worth checking that you have the correct indicator chain. If it was ever replaced with the wrong size, it won’t shift right. You need the mark II which is 56mm from base of threads to shoulder. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/indicators.html

    MBBO BAD INFLUENCE!

I kind of like the orange peel look. Maybe just embrace it. Call it textured.

I just re-watched that video. Looks like the front brake was hitting the frame when I did the gyro demonstration. I hadn’t noticed that until now. The gyro might also require new front brakes.

Here are a few other colorful parts to to choose from. I have polished the frame with t-cut. Looking pretty good. Will post a picture after I wax it.

Spray painting the stem. The paint was peeling off. This stem will not accept a gyro. Would need a hollow bolt and I couldn’t find one compatible with this stem. So it would require a new stem to add a gyro. I found some repop spinner pegs on eBay, but they were too much for the...

    1987 Mongoose Decade

I cleaned up the hubs and rims and will rebuild with stainless steel spokes. The spokes are only 185mm. Any tips for building wheels with such short spokes? When removing a few to measure I had to bend them a lot to unlace them. I guess they need to be bent to lace as well??
