    Early 60’s Esthetic

American Graffiti was a great movie. I do like Mid Century design, but really more where it's kind of an evolution of Streamline Moderne. The '50-'60s is my favorite era for car design and mostly for small speedboats as well. I also like that era of cheesy horror movies.

    Drum Brakes?

Anyone ever use drum brakes? I'm going to be converting an old hybrid to electric. Whether I can wait for the BO or not is to be determined (I'm trying to content myself with parts gathering and diagramming the electrical), but I'm thinking cantilever or V-brakes are going to be a little weak at...

    Shims

While old tubing is a good idea, he's got to go from 22.2 to 24.5 mm (7/8 to 1"). While that will likely work, there's going to be a lot of squish in there once he wraps it around enough to make up that big a difference in diameter.

Shifter cable & brake cable ferrules questions

Most important thing is running them so the curves are smooth and making sure the cut ends are straight and clean. The trick is walking the line between not being too tight, but not so loose that they flap around while riding I like to form them something close to the curve they'll take when...

    Shims

If it's not supporting anything that would put on a lot of torque, try PVC pipe. I just used some scrap Schedule 40 3/4" to do this very thing. The ID is a little smaller than the 22.2 bar, but the OD is right for 24.5. I don't know how tight your clamp is, so you might have to sand the OD a...

    Custom cable housing

I've used those cheap solid color ones on Cyclops, but for Major Taylor, I used translucent gold over stainless weave Jagwire housings which I really like (quality as well as looks). Not a great photo, but it's what I have. I need to get some updated pics of this.

    WANTED: TRM Convertible Tank

If you can't find one, I thought I'd add that, while they're not cheap, they're more than just cool looking tanks—they're built like them, too.

    restoring metal flake seat cover

I never tried it, but there's a rust remover called Whink that is supposed to be safe for all kinds of surfaces.

    The Simplicity of it All

Simple, but took thousands of years of combined, acquired knowledge and a lot of other periphery technologies (writing, long distance communications, relatively advanced metallurgy, and measuring standardizations at least) to achieve. I read somewhere that the only more efficient mover on the...

    just a few random questions

Ah, but would the collectors be interested if so many more bikes were intact?

    just a few random questions

My era was BMX, but we tossed chain guards and kickstands because they rattled and weren't cool (But I guess the grease tattoo on our tall striped socks was? My mother didn't agree.), so I would guess the same with the earlier era.

RAT / ROD MODEL KIT BASH CHALLENGE

Here's something like what I'm thinking based on the kid appropriate(ish) books I'm working on (the illustration isn't specifically part of them, just a goof I made based on the old Packard ad slogan).

RAT / ROD MODEL KIT BASH CHALLENGE

If we can build in the style, but without an actual Weird Oh kit, I'll be in (which it looks like people did here). I haven't sculpted anything in a while and I'd like to try out some new things, so it would be a chance to do that, plus I have three unfinished speedboat hulls and I could use one...

    Show us them cars!

I have a 2016 in the same color. It's got 16x,xxx miles on it now (less driving this year). About as reliable as a Corolla. I'd buy another when this wears out, but Ford decided to replace it with the lame Ecosport based on a cheaper platform, is inferior in every way (even interior space), and...

Anyone else like to use “odd” bikes to cover distance?

I put the second most amount of miles on the Retro Rocket. I figured it was going to see little use, particularly because it's a little small for me (I built it from my late mother's bike and she was about 6 inches shorter), but it's just too much fun to ride.

Why are modern BMX freehubs so freakin loud?

I don't like the noise, but it's the thing now. The spandexer rides have these on their expensive bikes and the noise seems to be amplified by the plastic frames. In that case, they at least give some warning to people on the bike paths that they're treating a shared, mix-use path with wobbly...

RAT / ROD MODEL KIT BASH CHALLENGE

This was a lot of fun just following! I almost don't want to vote.

RAT / ROD MODEL KIT BASH CHALLENGE

That's what my idea is for—using one of the scale models of the speedboat I designed along with a custom figure—if there's another one of these contests (unless the rules forbid it).

    Harley E bike

Unlike hydrocarbons, the lithium in batteries is recyclable (although the infrastructure is limited at the moment, it has value, so it's legit recyclable, unlike municipal "recycle" bin recycling where much of it often ends up in a landfill). Geothermal lithium extraction would go a long way to...

    Harley E bike

Cheaper because there is less case necessary to separate the components and BMS isn't as critical since the problem of thermal runaway is dramatically reduced. This also means higher charge and discharge rates, so less battery might be needed for a required peak wattage (though not wH). Less...
