    Where has Double Nickle been?

Restorations are rewarding when finished, but it's tough to get excited about bikes when you're in the middle of resto's and you can't see light at the end of the tunnel. Resto's are tedious, RatRods are fun and allow you to flex your creativity on a regular basis. I too have so many ideas I...

Picked Up Two Ladies in Town This Afternoon

Pretty decent local finds, 3.6mi from the house, made one heck of a package deal for them. Serial says 1960, F02149, but everything about the bike says earlier. I don't know, she'll make great parts for another project though. And, this NICE 1956 Corvette. Bike is dirty from a barn but...

Whats The Most You Ever Spent On A Part?

I had to buy parts for an Elgin Twin bar and for a Firestone Twin-Flex, nuff said.

2nd generation Schwinn you say? *new pics added*

They come up on Stl CL occassionally, and always in the $400 range in very good looking condition. That's not the price I would pay, but without fail, they're always gone from CL within just a couple of days so I'd say that's gotta be close to the market price around here.... but around here is...

Recommend a Bike Shop Near Snottsdale, AZ?

I'm selling two nicely restored bikes, a '53 Phantom and a '39 Elgin to a local couple who will be taking them to their place in Scottsdale for the winter. The guy is handy and very capable but he's not a bike nut like we are, they just want some cool old bikes to tool around on in the local...

2nd generation Schwinn you say? *new pics added*

Re: 2nd generation Schwinn you say? You bought that for 50 bucks?!?!? I just threw up. (I mean that in the best possible way). Seriously, I can't think of a better buy recently for a mere $50. Nice job.

Long Dry Spell, Picked up a Canti-Murray

STL Craigslist has been a wasteland for a while... I don't think I've chased a CL bike since June maybe, there's just been nothing attractive in decent shape in the $25-$50-$75 range at ALLLL. Picked this up from a REALLY cool, nice guy this morning. Had to drive a little ways but I like a road...

I finally got a Black Phantom IT'S HOME

Re: I finally got a Black Phantom BTW, in looking at the seat in your photo and a couple of others in-person for reference it looks like that seat leather might be getting a little dry. Don't want that thing to start getting flaky, any leather cleaner/ conditioner will do, just get it on there...

    ENGLISH GRAMMAR & SPELLING

Agreed. The degradation of society, yada yada yada. I would initially jump to conclude the problem stems from today's teens/ early twenties and texting habits, but hey, I text like a maniac but can still come here and lay down some righteous prose. Unfortunately the problem doesn't center...

I finally got a Black Phantom IT'S HOME

Re: I finally got a Black Phantom Beautiful. I didn't buy into the Phantom lust but had a mild interest in adding one to my herd so I made a trade with another member over the summer for a '53 Black Phantom, and I liked it.... a lot. THEN, not 5 weeks after owning it I kind of accidentally...

    24" drop center rims

Lots of manufacturers (if not every) used drop center rims and well into the 50's. True, Schwinn switched over to their proprietary S-2 rim in the late 40's, but I have in my shop right now a 24" Wasp from '53 courtesy of the original owner that states the wheels on the bike were original...

How can you tell if Schwinn S-2's are pre-war

The early S-2's didn't have the knurling around the rims. .... buuuuut I'm not sure how far back the S-2 rims went. The prewar Schwinns use a lot of regular drop-center rims.

How much should a bike shop cost?

^ THIS is a major issue, and one that a lot of guys here haven't considered thoroughly enough. Are you fixing bikes for other people and money is exchanging hands? Buying, improving, and then reselling bikes locally? Let's all be on the same page here, MANY people on RatRod fit into this...

Ok, thanks. There's one for sale locally, but the $200 tag is a little high for me personally.
