1960 24" Schwinn Tornado $50 LOCAL PICKUP ONLY

It is very nice for a 24" bike. C'mon let's step it up and save it from the part-out. Besides the fact that it already has some added parts. The handlebars are awesome!

1960 24" Schwinn Tornado $50 LOCAL PICKUP ONLY

I know, I know... It's a 24" The good: Tank is there, rack is there, truss rods and truss clamp are there, paint and striping in good shape, wheels are in good shape, Schwinn script is all there The bad: Fork was tweaked, I ruined it trying to fix it (will need a replacement or customize)...

    Craigslist nightmares and dreams...

For anyone in need of this bike, YES, it is still available for $275. The same pics have been on the ad for 13+ years, I doubt the bike even looks the same now.

    Huffy Green Machine Education Needed

I never had a big-wheel or a green machine. I got a heavily used roller racer. It was the "I had to walk 40 miles uphill both ways" version of any rolling toy. Get them a roller racer and they will appreciate anything you replace it with:rofl: And if you want downhill danger... I'm not sure what...

    30's Elgin

Automatic trans fluid frees up chains great. This is the first I've cleaned with a wire wheel and it worked amazingly.

Looking for info on this bike, The World

No serial info available for these, as stated above. But if you are adventurous enough to attempt crank removal, the date should be stamped on it

    30's Elgin

I washed the frame and waxed some of it. The areas with paint loss hold the wax residue and I'm not sure how I like it at the moment.

    30's Elgin

The rear wheel is looking great. I decided to unlace it to clean, then replaced some spokes with donors from a trashed triple-step I found in the basement. The front rim was a little wonky too, so I unlaced to clean and trued it up after. Only broke one spoke on the front trying to unlace, and...

    30's Elgin

Started on the wheel tonight. I had some same-length spokes on a postwar wheel. Same rust factor, but shorter nipples. Except for a slight hop, I have the wheel looking pretty good so far. A quick wipedown and it looks like the paint will be decent.

    30's Elgin

Since I'm going to tear down and reassemble, should I move this to the build thread?

    30's Elgin

The chain will be ok for sure. Clean it and oil it and it will be fine

    30's Elgin

I don't know if the rear wheel can be straightened. I doubt it, but I have another triple-step from a ladies elgin, same condition, minus the kink. First I plan to try straightening the rim, then get spokes back in it and see how it trues up. I want this to be a rider for now, so replacing the...

    30's Elgin

This thing looks terrible at the moment. But the only real roadblock is the rear wheel. I'm going to start cleaning tonight and see how it goes over the next few days. It really has a lot going for it, and I got it locally and cheap. Seat is decent, bars are too. And of course the stem and...

    Local show yesterday (Schwinn Prelude)

I remember seeing one just like this on here years ago. Slightly taller frame though. Maybe whoever had it can post for comparison.

    Local show yesterday (Schwinn Prelude)

I picked up this 1987 Schwinn Prelude. I'm not much of a roadbike guy, but this ice pink with 80's graphic was screaming to me. It's in great shape and works like it did when new. It has a few tiny rust spots. It got rained on coming home. After I got home and got it unloaded, I wiped the water...

    Fender ornaments

Wow! Those are awesome. I remember seeing some similar ones and have been looking for something like this to make fender ornaments. Please let me know if something changes and one or both become available. Thanks
