    Schwinn tire size

Look on amazon.com - lots of choices there. I'll point out, though, that gumwalls are common, but I've never seen a whitewall in a 27" size. Never was looking either, though.

    Schwinn tire size

27" tires are 27" tires - in this case, the Schwinn tires are no different than the industry standard. There is only one 27" wheel size. So, any tires that say 27" on them (ISO 630) will fit. There are many, many choices. CST tires are cheap and come in many colors, I had white ones on my...

    Sturmey Archer 8 speed hubs

Traditionally, you don't shift an internal gear hub under load - its like shifting gears in a car without using the clutch while on the throttle. That's abusive to geartrains anywhere. Admittedly, you can get away with it on bike a lot of the time, but you should at least lighten the load on...

    Sturmey Archer 8 speed hubs

I think that the SA 8-speed was developed with 16 & 20" wheeled bikes in mind (ie folders), that's why its geared so tall. You'd have to drive it with a pretty small chain ring to get a reasonably normal gear-inch range with 26" wheels/tires. I've never heard of clocking the sprocket to change...

Main sprocket to rear cassette sprocket alignment.

Ideally, I'd think that you want your chain ring to line up with the #3 cog on your freewheel. That way, you'd have no more cross-chaining than necessary in either shift direction. But realistically, it isn't going to matter too much as long as you have the derailer travel to cover the...

what bicycle genre. question. need opinions

Why don't you show us a picture and we can give you a better answer? I had salt flat hot rods in mind when I did this Monark Rocket last year: In my own mind, its more of a hot rod than a rat rod. But that's just what I had in mind when I built it. I think everyone has there own definition...

    Light up Brake light

There are some I've seen that used an inertia switch as well. It was self-contained in the light housing; when the bike decelerated quickly enough, the switch closed and lit the light. I'm not sure who made them or how well they worked, though.

    Rim Size

Without seeing it, its hard to say. The 26x1-3/8 rim is likely a 590 mm ISO diameter (650A), already larger than a lot of sizes. You might possibly squeeze a 700C wheel in if you use a very narrow tire (like 21 mm). But short of that, I think that you're already probably at the limit...

when a 20 inch tire isnt a 20 inch tire

This. Start by telling us what the ISO number on the tire is, so we know which wheel size you're actually dealing with. All else comes from there.

when a 20 inch tire isnt a 20 inch tire

Fair enough, a 26x1.5 is closer to 25" in diameter. I run those on my LHT. OTOH, if you compare a 26x 2.1 to a 26x 1-3/8 (which is more to what my point was), the outside diameter is pretty close. But that's a case - like with 700c - where the naming convention has essentially broken down...

    Murray Meteor Flite badge

It does seem like the model evolved quite a bit. So, like this one?

when a 20 inch tire isnt a 20 inch tire

I'd originally written something to that effect as well, but if you look at the actual tires shown, it seems like there's more to the issue than a simple sizing misunderstanding. Different 20" sizes should still be around 20" in outer diameter. The tires shown, though, are significantly different.

when a 20 inch tire isnt a 20 inch tire

This is just like with 26" tires - the 20" only designates the (theoretical) outside diameter of the mounted, inflated tire. It says nothing about the wheel diameter it mounts on. Just as there are 5 or 6 different wheel sizes that are used with what can be called 26" tires, there are several...

    Bike storage

Sans pedals and with the bars turned, they become quite narrow. I hang mine from the ceiling in my basement as well as upstairs in the garage. This works best for me.

Ok King, I just weighed my 3-Star - 48.8 pounds, as presented in the official photos.

    Opinions needed

You have the option of using a down tube shifter, or possibly an old stick shift. The old Shimano 333 Click Stik, or whatever it was called, will operate a Nexus 3 hub.

    Murray Meteor Flite badge

Are you talking about the MURRAY script on the front of the tank/light? This is probably the best shot I've found of the badge: This isn't my picture, and I don't recall where I found it. So, if someone can claim the picture, please do. I can also show you this catalog page that shows what...

    weight ?

OK. On mine, I've got 4 AA cells running the head & tail light combination. My horn was replaced by a brass bell, so no battery there. Now I'm quite keen to find out what the whole combination of parts weighs...

    weight ?

I expect that a stock one was no lightweight. But without one on hand, its hard to say. Mine was relatively stripped down before adding the skirts and some extra aluminum bits, so that's no reference. Of course, all bets are off with the new wheel/tire combo, and my flat blade fork is...

    weight ?

There's a lot of steel in that beast. I'll have to put the luggage scale on the 3-Star to see how it compares. One thing I can comment on, though, the dog absolutely does not like being weighed that way...
