Anyone use an English wheel to straighten out fenders?

I have used an English Wheel on fenders. Works great. In fact I used a Harbor Freight EW with the exception that the whole tool has been boxed in to eliminate all the flex in the tool.

Can I save this wheel or do I need a new one?

This bike has caliper brakes front and rear so paint/powder coat is not the best option. Likely it is a Sturmey Archer rim (Raleigh used a lot of these rims). I would search ebay.uk for a rim. The rim should be cheap enough but the shipping will kill a good deal. As a rider I would take the...

Rare vs hard to find vs valuable

Yup, the usual confusion between rare and desirable. People might collect what is rare but they pay for what they desire. I was told by a mentor many years ago to only collect and buy what was high end and rare when it was new. Collect what the rich people bought new then later discarded.

    Man's greatest invention

To vote for the bicycle or the knife I would first have to put forward the Bessemer Process or we would not have sufficient cheap steel to make either.

What's your favorite grease to use for bikes that ain't marketed for bikes?

Phil Wood grease is marketed as a water proof grease. You can buy water proof grease all day long at any marine supply store (boat store) for a fraction of the cost.

HELP! putting a disc on a non disk hub...

This is probably a non-starter but it is not for me to decide. The face of the disc mounting surface on the hub is 15mm from the face of the lock nut. This measurement needs to be very accurate and the mounting surface needs to have zero run-out (flat with no wobble).

    Freewheel Indexing

Yep, Shimano did start SIS with 6 speed. Early on I remember Wayne and Dale Stetina shaving down the hub spacers and riding 7 and 8 speed cassettes years before production models came out.

Why do I want a skip tooth chain bike?

I love inch pitch chains. There is no rational reason for using them except they have a certain cool factor, and block chains are even cooler.
