Man's greatest invention

Maybe this has been discussed before, I recently displayed some of my bikes as part of
an art trail where I live. Was really surprised how many people commented on how much
they loved them, not only the younger people but also some of the older folk. I guess we
all have a happy memory from our youth involving bicycles.

This got me thinking after the wheel is the bicycle one of modern man's greatest inventions?

In-expensive to buy and run, non polluting, good for your health and probably found in every
country on the planet?

Beer, but the wheel is a close second, followed by the bicycle, or should it be wheel-bicycle-beer? Seeing as how you can ride to the store to pick up some beer?

The bicycle is a pretty good invention in terms of primitive transportation and smiles per mile/km, but if I had to pick Man's greatest invention, the Habor Process wins hands down.

?? I assume you are talking about Ammonia production (Haber Process) , and although we need fertilizer to grow barley and hops to make beer I still think its more important not have to walk to the store. My vote is for Wheel -> Bike -> Beer

For as much damage alcohol has done, not so great an invention, also it is a poison!
No war ever was fought on bicycles, yet....
Now, for a real contest of inventions, I submit my knife. It can feed me, protect me, and fix stuff.

I'm going to agree with B607 on this one, a close second would be toilet paper.

To vote for the bicycle or the knife I would first have to put forward the Bessemer Process or we would not have sufficient cheap steel to make either.
