    Show us your Dogs/Cats/Pets

More “pet” squirrels. These two live in my trees and create a more woodland atmosphere. That’s hard to come by in the desert. They Lie!!! “How long will this fish get?” I asked, (expecting a lie.) “About 9”…”they” said. I had to dispatch 2 of them with a hatchet at 14” & 16”. Too big for...

    The Fake Jaguar Thread

The other rail needed some body work with big hammers and an anvil. It took some effort to get it straight enough. So all the rails are painted inside, and when the paint cures I can assemble them. In the meantime I am cleaning up the pan edge again. Once it all fits I might trim off...

    The Fake Jaguar Thread

Still no new pix. After some more delays, I finally got back to the chassis. I stripped the rails down for paint inside, before boxing. There was some rust and dirt collected since I welded these, so some effort with the wire wheels was needed. I got one side clean and painted before I gave...

    The Fake Jaguar Thread

Still just trimming and fitting, but I am down to the wire. I did get my wife out to help me with the trammel. Some of my cleaned parts have started rusting again. I started to re-clean them and do some prelim painting, before I start tacking things up. But I’m out of paint so that means I...

    Tips n Trix

Neither of mine have oil ports. You can still oil and clean them thru the chain hole. Spray thru the hole with an aerosol can penetrating oil, tip the hole down, and shoot 60 psi air up through the hole while working the hub. That brings the oil back out. Repeat until any grit is flushed, then...

    The Fake Jaguar Thread

I was tying down the new fuel line inside my VW tunnel and I realized that the shifter bushing was not seated properly. It’s just a plastic snap in bushing but it has to snap in before the shifter rod goes through it, and it did not. So I had to take the shift rod apart and take it back out...

UNLIMITED Stacey’s Mom aka the Tall-Goose

Will you attempt to complete this one? Maybe one of the rockers needs a handle or pedal to help the bike flip and stay.

    Random Welding Projects (non-bicycle)

I already showed the rocket stoves, in detail, but they are certainly non-bicycle. This was from 2 old boat seat pedestals. That’s my BBQ grill. Here’s the fire grill I made. For the this stove: This was a shock absorber and a small freon compressor.

I put in a fat 3/8” fuel line, and it comes out along the stock 3/16” line. In the front it is just taped to the new brake line for now. I had to bend the lines away from the clutch hook and cable. The new tubes are currently secured to the chassis with zip ties to the clutch cable guide...

Oh, I didn’t show the crappy welds. They got gouged out and repaired.

I got the shifter rod back in the tunnel, and the coupler on. Then I put in the new rear brake line. This is a kit for a stock VW. You have to bend everything to fit. My dad bought these tubing tools when we body-swapped the scout in 1974. They will come in handy. I used the longest tube...

    Random Welding Projects (non-bicycle)

1973: the opposite side of the coin. I designed and built this hoist for my father. He helped with drilling and sawing. I did the torch cutting and arc welding. I used some relic Lincoln 400 amp welder from WW2 the size of a 1940s refrigerator. (Set my pants on fire too.) Some of the welding...

    Random Welding Projects (non-bicycle)

I did that weld with an 0.094” electrode, sharpened to a needle point and polished. I set the pedal for 33 amps max, but I never used it all. This welder has a high frequency low amp start that really allows you to start the arc and focus, without immediately burning things up.

Today I waited for prime painting temperatures, after 9:00 am, then shot a quart of rust-converting paint inside the tunnel, from these magnum spray cans. Small cans might have been easier. By noon it was 100f so that paint is curing desert-style. I was putting a lot of rust-converting paint...

    The Fake Jaguar Thread

Today I went into that tunnel with a 3”grinder disk chucked in a high speed pneumatic die grinder on a 30 inch rod. It was a PITA to control but I managed to finish grinding down the last of the offensive internal welds waaaaay in there. I spent some more time flap sanding and wire brushing...

Rat / Rod Model Kit Bash Challenge 2023

Oooff! $900 for tires and a fortune just on fork oil! Too complex. Even my bike is too complex. I’m going for something less complex.

    Random Welding Projects (non-bicycle)

I’ve done a few, but I will start out with a small one. Welding my welding pants. This is my finest weld to date! Look at that tiny sucker! 0.094” I could have bent a new piece of wire, but it would’ve been less fun.

Another round of rusty fun today. It’s pretty good save a few rusty corners. The back end is pretty good too. This device was essential. And before you ask, Yes, I have seen at least 200 episodes of Red Green. Other tools of destruction. Also found in the tunnel. A VW throttle cable end...

Rat / Rod Model Kit Bash Challenge 2023

Is the Octavia 8 cylinders? (I had an aunt named Octavia.) Little is known about the modern Skodas here. Skoda isn’t in the iPhone proper spelling list.

Boring day scrubbing rust out of the tunnel. It’s not thick, but it is hard to reach. Maybe in 2 days I will paint it. I took the pedals back out. They will need cleanup work, straightening & welding.
